I have been trying to render out a long video 107 minutes into a MPEG2 progressive file that DVDA3 won’t compress. So far I have been stubborn enough to do this 3 times & but DVDA still wants to recompress. I have DVDA set to use a 8.5 GB disk.

I have rendered it out using both the PAL DV wide screen template & changing settings for MPEG2 to progressive scan. I have even rendered it out as 2 separate streams using the DVDA template & changing just the field order to none ‘progressive’. I ended up with 3 files ranging in size from 4.6 to 5.3 GB yet every time time DVDA says it going to recompress. The optimize DVD button say that all 3 files are about 20-30% larger than what Explorer says & that all files have a bit rate lower than 9.2KBPS. It says that I will only use about 70% of disk capacity.

Is DVDA capable of processing these files without rec compression them & if so how is it done?

    Thanks in advance

Typically, if your total file sizes are smaller than the DVD capacity, it should not try to compress them further.

This is a stupid question but since you have the DVD setting set to use a disc that’s 8.5GB, are you using a disc that is 8.5GB? Is it dual layer or double sided?

Yes I will be using a dual layer disk since I don’t want recompression. I won’t try burning the disk until DVDA tells me that it won’t recompress. I also have a smaller progressive file in the project & no mention is made about wanting to recompress it. Even with this other file it said that I would be using about 80% of disks capacity.

Additionally I was thinking of adding an extra folder that contained a copy of all stills used in making the video but didn’t add it to the project yet since I am under the impression that that the DVDA calculation about what percentage of a disks capacity it will use for your project files doesn’t take these extras into consideration. Please correct me if I’m wrong?

    Thanks in advance
