I wished to get some footage from my old Sony digital 8 camera so plugged in the fire wire connector & Windows XP detected the new devise, opened a box from which I ticked capture with Vegas 6 capture. I set my preferences for disk management etc then clicked capture. The camera started to play OK The video appeared in the preview window & it told me that where I was on the tape. The amount of footage remained at zero. I stopped everything & confirmed that nothing had been captured. I tried it all again but this time the preview window didn’t even show the video or tell me where it was on the tape even though the camera was playing.

I checked to see what devise was been displayed for capture & it said ‘Microsoft DV camera & VCR’. Should it not be displaying my camera’s name ? Does this mean that my camera has been incorrectly detected? The only other capture devise listed on the drop down list was for my PC’s Digital/analogue tuner card.

How do I fix this problem?

    Thanks in advance

Since I could not capture in Vegas I eventually turned to Windows Movie Maker 2 which is also on my machine. This capture my video & created an avi file which I can open in Vegas. WMM2 seemed to have created thumbnails for each indivual clip but in Vegas I only have one large clip. Is this normal or do I still have to do something in WMM to divided the large clip into smaller clips?

    Thanks in advance
