.cda is the Windows file extension for CD audio track files. According to Adobe’s documetation for Premiere 6, QuickTime Pro should convert to .aiff.
Other audio conversion programs, like Switch ( https://www.nch.com.au/components/switchmac.zip ), only list .cda conversion as being available for their Windows version.

I guess that its more than Media Manager thay needs the rewrite… 🙁
I guess its the Project file that needs it, or rather an underlying asset database where the status of every element in the project is robustly recorded.

The Premiere Pro folk are bemoaning Adobe’s take on media management, which (as I understand it) is hamstrung by PPros XML project file format.
Does FCP fare any better.

Sure bits of string with knots in worked fine for the Incas, and heiroglyphs on pottery slabs or walls allowed the Pharaohs to record inventories sufficient to facilitate pyramid construction. but is a modern equivalent – seemingly a vague list – a good enough structure for a Project file?

Every time someone asks ‘why can’t FCP be like old Premiere’, like marking a clip’s Browser icon as soon as it gets put onto a Sequence timeline, or like Shift+ f on a freeze frame not highlighting the constituent source asset(s) in the Browser, the FCP experts say ‘Well it can’t, because the Project doesn’t know which Sequence(s) or even Project(s) you mean it to refer to…’

Similarly all the fuss of speed-changed timeline clips coming up in the Viewer or in EDL/XMLs as some other bit of the clip totally unrelated….

Well software databases can be built well able to correlate such complexities, can’t they? That’s what they do…
Well anywhere else apart from FCP or PPro project files LOL…

Take a look at the timeline media round about 15% in, using QuickTime Player to directly open your hard drive movie files.
When I had a similar error I found a couple of dodgy unopenable movie files, which had to be recaptured to restore the project’s functionality.

What they mean is they want a movie that will play in Powerpoint.What they mean is one that can be played natively by whatever older version of Windows Media Player they got with their version of Windows when the computer/laptop was new.

What they means is they don’t have a DVD player installed, so can’t view DVDs.
What they mean is that their IT department has disabled installing add-on software like QuickTime – or that even if there is no ban they don’t have the expertise…

So:
Mpg 1 will work, but not look good.
WMV will look better, but needs extra Mac software to create them.

It was a no-brainer that FCP 6 at NAB 2006 wasn’t going to happen, with the Universal Binary transition in full swing.

Its a no-brainer that Apple’s Pro Software division could lose out in quite a big way when mid-year Adobe come out with an all-swinging all-linking Dynamic Link/Bridge integrated suite Premiere Pro return-to-the-Mac announcement – if Apple don’t have something correspondingly enticing on the visible horizon.

Of course the longer Apple take to *better* integrate Final Touch, eMagic, Shake and Proximity etc products into their core media-software lines the better off all us end users will be.
Although Logic Pro has been asset-stipped to create GarageBand and SoundTrack Pro, the core application is still undeveloped in any significant way, yet its been an Apple product since 2002.

So if we get goodies this NAB, then whey-eh!
If we don’t, well then next year we might get something even better, with Adobe’s provoking… 😉

Anyone who uses this software day-in day-out will have a number of little niggles – things that used to work in previous versions that don’t any longer, or interface anomolies that interfere with productivity.

For instance I’ve found that when previewing timeline clip audio in the Viewer – if that audio is from a captured-linked movie clip, and I’ve severed the link on the timeline to offset the audio a bit, then sometimes I don’t get a Viewer audio waveform/play-head match – its offset by some seconds, seemingly randomly.

I suspect this may be affected by the RT preview setting, but its very inconvenient when it happens. Because of that inconvenience I’m always going to want to upgrade my FCP software, to see if this anomoly has disappeared.

Since there isn’t a valid Mac partition Erase can’t work, so that option will be greyed out.
What I would expect is that if you select the Drive Icon, not the Volume Icon, in the list on the left,
then on selecting the Partition Tab, the drop-down Volume Scheme Menu that says Current can be changed to 1 Partition.
Then (only then) do you get the option to reformat the drive using Mac HFS+.

Use Disk Utility to create a new Partition, then you will be able to format it.

Nice expensive ones that do things like add set-up usually won’t.
Very nice really expensive ones, like they put on ocean-going super-yachts, yes, For when they’re in Monte Carlo.
Really cheap generic ones from Taiwan and China, most do, sort of. Maybe rescaling, and adding one frame in 5 to get the frame rate. Doesn’t look so good.
