thanx steve. after the hell that i walked through with crashing sv11 i am determined to stay away from any upgrades from sony vegas.

As I remember this might be a second time i get this bug. happily it is not so common. i will make a walk around certainly but it is a pain. thanks so much for the info and for the link to an extension completely new for me. i thought i keep tracking new scripts, extensions and filters but i missed that one. maybe i should ask you pro people for that? do you know any more interesting tools apart from well known commercial filters and extensions from prodad, newblue, vasst, redgiant?
and two: i can’t find a reasonable explanation of my other question. you seem to know a lot in those hidden for me areas, maybe you could help?

thanx Graham for your efforts.
i am dealing with two issues and i made two threads maybe unnecessary.my question in this thread is basically: what happened to 400 mb of data in the edited file?
what was that data if after editing my video stream is untouched. it was rendered without recompression. i only tweaked audio but my audio in the new mxf file is still pcm.this new file (‘files’ to be honest, i have more than one) works normally in vegas?
i catch the difference between vob and mpg files stored in vob but here there is no change like that. i have exactly the same format and the same streams in the same container. one file is made by canon camera, another by sony vegas. one is 900mb while another only 570 to be exact? what is the difference?

the story continues.
let’s summerize.i have a media in project bin. it is used on the timeline. but when i preview the timeline, i see another media, not the one i put there before.
so i thought: let’s try this- i rename the media and reopen the project hoping that it would open the missing media dialog, i would point to the same media which now would have a new name and vegas will reload the media and get things right.
and you know what? when i do that, sv10 crashes. what else?
when i drag this file from windows explorer to my project, vegas crashes too. BUT when i drag the same media to new, empty project, vegas imports it without a problem. WTF???any solution to that? what the hell? my files are mpeg2 1280×720, 35 mbps in mxf pro container. and there is one more thing which i put into a new thread because it is strange too…

Avermedia Live Gamer HDi focused on what you asked for but i am thinking beyond that now. what do you mean “you need no quality loss”. are you gonna upscale it to 4K for the movies or what? just import whatever you have into vegas, chop it as you like and render to mp4. it will look perfectly the same and it will probably be much lighter, with appropriate settings no one including you will be able to say which is original and which recompressed. you really do not need to go lossless to keep very good quality.

i am not really sure if i understand. you wanna have a video with split screen comparison filter on/off?
.
two video tracks. two events one over another on those tracks. one track is no filters, another is filters on.use event PAN/CROP or TRACK MOTION to the upper event or track, move it left or right depending on which half of the picture you want to show.
you can also use newblue filter “splitscreen” i guess is its name.
that is all

Avermedia Live Gamer HDi guess you will not be able to do it in vegas. only few pro formats may be cut and saved without reencoding. i d say you rather need another program for chopping video files. vegas is rather for editing and postproduction. it accepts many input formats but most of them must be reencoded on the output.

walk around that. click “ok” on search option and select the right disc/partition/whatever. it will find the right file and will reconnect the rest of medias if they are in the same folder.
solution 2
chose “specify a new location or replacement”. this will open a dialog window. at the top of it you will see full path and name of the missing file. you probably know well where your files are so you will easily reconnect the media. after that an info pops out that other medias where found in the same folder. you can hit “apply to all” or something like that and it will reconnect all your medias. of course if you renamed media in-between… your ass is grass then. but you wouldn’t be that stupid to rename media, would you?

scattershot inside vegas and always after effects for the outside job. scattershot may even be simpler as i think there are presets for more or less what you want which you can just adjust to your needs

don’t know exactly your project but you can stack your frames one above other and change their transparency, i mean their events…
or maybe better: set a track for the first frame and another above it but make it transparent. this way two tracks are enough to observe how the movement changes. you just throw your frames on upper and lower track overlapping each other like bricks in the wall. thanx to transparency in the upper track you can have onion skin effect. when you’re satisfied with the next frame you just put it after the previous on the lower track and drop another frame on the upper track overlapping the one you just fixed.
at the and you can buy excellent vegasaur script or probably excalibur to make with just a few clicks all events one frame long and put them side by side and voila – your animation is ready. you can export your video or even picture sequence.hope this is clear enough and will help you or at least give some new ideas to explore in wonderful vegas world!
take care
