Are your playback prefs set to Higher Quality or Better Performance? This will happen with Better Performance chosen. Try setting to Higher Quality and rendering, then see what you get.

[Oliver Peters] “Some of the audio clips had been moved into the primary storyline and others are connected, so their position no longer correctly reflects the timeline they came from. “

If I understand what you’re saying, this is normal behavior for clips inside of a compound clip whether audio, video or both. When you compound connected clips there has to be something on the primary storyline inside of the connected clip. Its sounds like you are looking for a gap clip to be created automatically to maintain your structure but that’s not how compound clips work.

As far as the issue with your audio levels and panning, are you deleting render files for the project before doing a final render or export? When I’m working on spots and using a previous spot as the basis for a new I duplicate the project and do not include any of the media or render files. Copy and paste might be causing your problem by pulling along the previous render files. Not sure on this but it sounds like something I have run into before.

The reason I think it’s a bug is because it is not consistent. It also is not the correct behavior. It is like when focus “sticks” on a clip in the event library even though I have chosen my timeline for playback.

I think this is a bug. If a clip is not selected its OSC should not show. I have reported it.

November 13, 2012 at 4:56 pm in reply to: Head to Head Audio Speed Retiming Test

FCP X used to retime audio perfectly for me up to as much as 125%. Somewhere around the 10.0.4 update I found I could no longer get the same results. I have sent feedback about this a number of times. I don’t know what happened. I often have to speed up non-pro talent when editing spots. Sometimes I can let it go and sometimes I use Audacity to retime the audio. It’s disappointing to have had that capability and to have lost it.

  • This has been the case since 10.0.0
I find old DV files that won’t open in FCP X and some that will. No obvious reason why. The “save as” using QT Pro will work or convert to ProRes. Fortunately for me I rarely work in SD anymore so it’s not a big deal. There are a number of ways to batch convert such as using legacy FCP or MPEG Streamclip.

    1. I’ve always found control v much easier to use

    2. Right click on column header for options

    3. This behavior has been changed. Click to choose clip without moving play head. Option click to choose clip and move play head.

Complete info about your setup would be helpful. I wouldn’t consider the answer you received acceptable.

You’d have more luck getting an answer on fcp.co in this particular instance.
