Go to OWC and check out their installation instructions. I thought I was doing it right but was having kernel panics. When I went to their site and looked at their instructions I found I was actually doing it wrong. When I followed their instructions to the “t” the new RAM worked fine. I don’t remember what the difference was but it had do do with pairing the modules on the risers correctly.

The i7 has hyperthreading and the i5 does not. See this document for a discussion.

As far as the Fusion drive IMHO as a system drive it looks great. I haven’t seen any need at this point for a system drive over 1 TB. I’m using less than 200 GB on the system drives of my edit systems and most of that would not be accessed regularly. Either Fusion drive has 128 GB of SSD which should be enough for the way it works with regularly accessed files stored on the SSD section.
Typically you would be using an external drive for media so the extra capacity of the 3 TB Fusion would probably make a lot less of an impact than extra RAM and the 2 GB graphics card.

January 19, 2013 at 3:10 pm in reply to: I’m getting WAY too many flash frames. Anyone else?I was recently doing some audio editing with the source clip in the primary storyline and no other clips in the project.
I cut out a section and wanted to repeat it several times so I did what I would normally do and option-dragged the clip to make and place the duplicate. I kept getting one frame audio clips at the end of the option-dragged clip.
This is not normal behavior and I have not been able to follow up on it yet but maybe there is a bug in there somewhere and it’s related to what you’re seeing.

I have reported it as a bug. It is very annoying and I don’t see any useful reason for it. It’s probably the one thing I find bothers me most about using FCP X.

Investigate all clips, transitions etc. at the point where the render stops. I have run into this a couple of times and both times there was a transition or transitions right around the point where rendering stopped that, when I removed them, the render finished with no problem. Also, you can try deleting all project render files first.

You’re not missing anything. The FCP X chroma-keyer is excellent

What format are you shooting and how far is the subject from the green screen? Shoot the highest resolution format you can. The further from the green screen the less spill. This in addition to Michael’s advice will help.

Based on what you have posted this does not sound like an FCP X issue. It sounds like a system issue. Have you run Disk First Aid? Open up the Font Book app and validate all your fonts under your current user profile? If it works under a new profile then something is funky in your user profile.
