Capturing of a Retina Mac Pro via thunderbolt firewire adapter
Hi All,
Just got a new MBP Retina (2.6 i7, 16GB, 512 Flash drive), and a Thunderbolt firewire adapter. I am trying to capture with FCPX 10.0.7 but all the system is showing is the laptops facetime camera. The camera I have plugged in a Canon XH-A1. its got a fully charge battery and I have left the power supply at work.
do I need to have to camera on Mains power to capture to the laptop ? It doesn’t require seem to require it when I plug it into the firewire of my main work Mac
Any idea what I am doing wrong or do I need something else to capture to the laptop..
Any help would be greatly appreciated before I go slightly insane

Is the camera in playback mode?

Hi Tom,
Yup its in VCR/PLAY mode, I have captured from this camera dozens of time with my macpro tower. no issues
But I am suspecting that it may be that it needs mains power. but I just can’t find anywhere it will specificallly say this is how its done on a laptop
