    Hey,

I don’t know JACK about 3d, and on the recommendation of many here I got a copy of Cinema 4D CE+ for $100, which is basically a full version of Cinema 4D XL v6 (at least, this is what I’ve been told). One of the best $100 I’ve ever spent!

They’re up to version 9 (which is what I believe Chris Smith is using) and a little out of my price range at the moment, but CE+ is so much fun, and there are hundreds of tutorials on the net for making all sorts of models and abstract things.

Finding it on their site is near impossible, but I’m sure a quick email will help you.

    Hey,

Adam, I think I do! I’ll have to read up on it. If I understand correctly, volumetric light will ‘fill’ up whatever space it occupies and all objects in that space will reflect the light.

Chris, it’s nice to see someone else from the AE forum here : ) I’m not too sure about motion graphics and music videos (never watch Mtv), but filming the dust sounds like a good idea if I can’t recreate it myself. The trick will be though to film it in a way that will look believable when I lay it over my 3d animation.

    Hey,

    Can you try this:

    1. Add a Circle Spline, make its radius 5m
    2. Using the Freehand Spline tool, draw some shape you want your hose to be.
    3. Add a SweepNURBS object.

Ok, you should now have 3 objects in your Object manager: a Circle, a Spline, and a SweepNURBS.

    4. In the Object manager, Drag the Circle onto the SweepNURBS.
    5. Drag the Spline onto the SweepNURBS just below the Circle.

BOOM!!! A neat looking tube that you can use as a hose. IF you want to add more bends, you should be able to simply click on the Spline object in the Object manager and manipulate it all you want, the SweepNURBS object will make sure that it maintains the shape of the Circle.

    Take care,

  • Hey,

I think you also can only have scripting in the Pro version, which to some it well worth its weight in gold.

    Hey,

Do I need QTP to make a .mov file loop or ping pong? I’ve seen a lot of files that people post here which do that.

    Thanks,

April 30, 2005 at 12:09 am in reply to: Newbie question: how to make polygons from splines

    Hey,

Thanks for you reply. I managed to find another way to do what I needed doing, the problem I had was that when I went to extrude a side, little canyons were appearing in my extrusions where polygon segments were. All I had to do was to make sure that ‘preserve groups’ was checked (I must have unchecked it when playing around with the program).

  • Hey,

    That’s it!

    Hey,

No worries, I work with IT all day long, I’m not afraid of driver installation! I installed the same program on my work machine and haven’t had any issues (yet) using the same files which were causing my machine to crash. I guess I’ll have to update the driver on my laptop (although I thought I already did to see how AE would work with OpenGL) and see how things go.

    Thanks for replying,

    Nick

    512mb RAM
    NVidia GeForce2 Go 32mb

For OpenGL, I have ‘enabled support for enhanced CPU instruction sets’.

    Take care,
