OT: Benefits of Quicktime Pro
Posted by Nicholas White on May 1, 2005 at 9:10 pmHello,
I am curious about Quicktime Pro and wanted to ask users in this forums why one should have it; my main question is if there are any added benefits to having this program over what I am able to do in After Effects. I am running a PC.
Take care,
Nick

May 1, 2005 at 9:35 pmQuickTime “Pro” only adds Export and Edit to the QuickTime Player and save from the browser plug-in. It really should be called QuickTime Player Pro because it only adds features to the Player application. it doesn’t add or unlock any feature in any other application. There are about 20,000 other applications on Mac and Windows that use QuickTime (according to Apple about 2 years ago) and “pro” adds nothing to them.
The feature I like is the ability to edit compressed files without decompressing and re-encoding them. For me that’s worth the $30 US but then I do that a lot. There may be some export formats than are supported in After Effects, but not many.
Cheers

May 2, 2005 at 12:19 amI love the “Add To movie” and “add scaled” commands.
makes it possible to add a soundtrack to a movie, or try adding a widescreen-matte to a 2Gb Quicktime movie without having to re-render. With Quicktime pro you can just render out a widescreen-matte with alpha, and add it on top of the movie.
Hit save and you’re done.
Also very quick for extracting sound out of none-multiplexed movies.

May 2, 2005 at 12:23 amHey,
Do I need QTP to make a .mov file loop or ping pong? I’ve seen a lot of files that people post here which do that.
Thanks,
Nick

May 2, 2005 at 12:32 amYou need QT-pro to watch a movie loop or pingpong in the movieplayer application, but that doesn’t affect the movie itself, just the way you’re watching it.
