Otherwise, make one large (HD) 16:9 master AND a 4:3 SD master.

so, taking the Flash approach and getting back to the original question, how would you recommend a Mac/FCS user create FLVs for his client’s PC use?

It was mentioned recently (I think by Walter) that FCP only uses 2gb of RAM. And I also think that this is mentioned in the online manual.

The placement and order of the memory chips is also important; I can’t remember where the detail is though …

Some applications will make 16:9 mpeg-1 files; Compressor is not one of those. (And even then, not all players will play a 16:9 pmeg-1 file correctly, anyway. Last time I checked, Quicktime played them correctly; Windows Media Player on PCs didn’t)

The new version of Compressor does allow you to letterbox 16:9 into a 4:3 setting, though I found its quality very ordinary. Give it a try.I got better results letterboxing within FCP.

Thanks for the responses. As I’ve said elsewhere, this lack of functionality is a gross deficiency for a professional application.
I will let Apple know.

BTW, I’m not actually in need of editing these two tapes synchronized; I am just trying to find an easy way to log two similar tapes.
It’s been some years since I did this kind of work on Avid Media Composer, but I felt sure I was able to do it – even way back then.

Anyway, as I said, I’ll add it to the list of improvements Apple needs to look at, in order to truly enter the professional world of editing …

and if that works, relink the media to the clips, then go to Modify … Rename … Clips to File (renames the FCP clip names to match the files they are linked to.)
