Say we’re creating an animated logo in AE, and we want to get the broadest use of it in terms of different playback environments, like 16:9, 4:3, HD, SD, etc. Can I get by with creating one full-rez file version that can then be re-formatted according to the playback need? Or, do I need to do different versions that conform to the different playback requirements. The thing that particularly throws me is whether or not we need to create a wide-screen version vs. 4:3. Probably easiest to make different versions of the file and then output to whichever tape format is required, no?
This stuff just anamorphoses my mind!

    Well,

About the only way you can just do one is to do it huge with no fields, but then, you still have frame rates to deal with.

What I do in AE is make the thing 1080 and center it, then you can nest (precompose) that into any format comp you want, change the frame rate, render with fields etc. So all you’re really doing is re-rendering the darn thing.

    Have a wonderful day.

So, it sounds like the most versatile way to keep this is as a huge file that then gets rendered into progressive, interlaced, 720, DV, Flash, whatever? And with it centered in such a big file, one can then position it anywhere on the screen no problem?
    Thanks for one last clarification,
    David

Yes, and yes, if you render it with an alpha channel. That leaves you with the Animation codec, I don’t know of any other that can do this.

    Have a wonderful day.

and what about safe zones? If you build it in a 16:9 canvas what will you assume for 4:3? 16:9 Letterboxed or 16:9 with a 4:3 center cut?

    Hard to build a one-size-fits-all solution …

Otherwise, make one large (HD) 16:9 master AND a 4:3 SD master.
