You’re right; this is an observation, not an error. Avid was developed decades ago, by film editors. Much of it was based on how editing was done on film. You can find many critics of Avid these days but, fundamentally, Avid Media Composer – at the basic editing level – remains one of the best editing systems because they got so much right at the beginning. That you find one function difficult because it operates different from the system you’re used to, simply highlights that there are different ways to do things, in this case, when the user doesn’t do something, and the system has to make an assumption. Avid’s assumption works well because it works the same on both the source and record sides. Plus, that assumption carries through to other parts of its editing practices.

Definitely not an error. And, in my opinion, a great way to work.

Have you drawn a shape in the effect? That Blur effect doesn’t simply apply to the whole frame; it does far more than that. Note the toolbar on the right side. Within the effect, you draw (select) the portion of the frame that you want blurred, using the Circle or Rectangle tool on the right. Then the Opacity, Hor & Ver will fill with numbers for you to adjust. You can have multiple areas with different blur amounts in this one effect.
If you want the whole frame blurred, simply draw a Rectangle shape over the whole frame.
    Enjoy.

Can be turned off in the Timeline Window on its toolbar at the far left – click on the existing Segment or Overwrite button and it will stop being highlighted and therefore, inactive. You’ll then be left with your cursor arrow when it is over a segment.

See also, in the Timeline Settings (in its Edit tab) that you can select/check ‘Clicking the TC Track or Ruler Disables Smart Tools’ and it will do a similar thing.

Worth having a read of the Media Composer Family Help as there are several options and you need to experiment a bit to see which combination suits your work style.

    Enjoy.

2 paths to consider. I’ve used both. One way, you do the fix and the other way, the Sound Mixer does the fix.

Yes to your actual question if the tracks 1 & 2 you mention belong to the 23 tracks in question and they are all in the one source.

If this is so, with your completed Sequence, you can duplicate track 1 21 times. Then, (for example) take the track that should be Source track 3, select all the clips on it, right-click one of those clips to bring up the menu and select the option ‘Change Source Track’ and select A3. Do this with the remaining tracks, changing them to A4, A5 etc.

Another way I’ve achieved this with my Sound Mixer who uses a program other than ProTools, is to send an EDL of the track with Track 1 audio on it plus the original 23 source file and he conforms that EDL to give him all 23 tracks for every edit. Not sure if ProTools is capable of doing that, but, if you talk to your Mixer, they might know how to make it work.

    Howpe all that helps.

Check that Render On-The-Fly is turned on (Ticked.)

It’s under the Composer menu option.

Check the Online User Guide and have a read on this section:

August 30, 2021 at 10:27 pm in reply to: Symphony Color Groups by Src Tape?

In your Bin, show Sources; do you have many instances of the same Source Reel?

Creating media in Resolve and bringing it into Avid can have the effect of creating essentially a unique Tape Name for each clip, even if it looks like the same name!

I had your problem and this was the issue. I modified all the clips that had the same effective Reel Name to be just one of those Reel Names (that is, they all had the same Source according to Avid) and then the ‘grade by SrcTape’ worked as it should.

    What you’re seeing is correct.
The first frame of your program will not be black, but the first frame of the transition – a very dark picture. Effectively, if the first frame of the program was black, then the fade up would be commencing 1 frame in.

What you are currently seeing is both correct and standard practice.

March 12, 2019 at 3:29 am in reply to: How do I composite video within text or a logo?

The png allows a for a Fill and alpha channel in the one file. What you want in Avid is the alpha channel element only. So, outside of Avid, you need to create a B&W version of the logo with no alpha.
Import that and use 3 tracks of video.
    V1 Background
    V2 Foreground
V3 B&W logo with the effect ‘Matte Key’ placed on it.
This creates the composite effect that you want.
Does that do it for you?

[Sauro Morganti Morganti] “”This operation requires you to select a SD format for this project. Please choose between NTSC & PAL. Note: This selection will be set permanently in this project.””

This message can occur if you have a mismatch of frame rates. What frame rate is your 1080p Project?
