Batch rename clips in a bin

August 20, 2007 at 10:44 pmI haven’t tried this but you could rename the clips in the finder using a batch renaming utility such as https://publicspace.net/ABetterFinderRename/ I’m sure there are others.
Then you could import the renamed clips into a new bin and toss the original clips.

and if that works, relink the media to the clips, then go to Modify … Rename … Clips to File (renames the FCP clip names to match the files they are linked to.)

The original poster will need FCP 6 to do that. By importing the clips renamed in the Finder, the bin names and file names will match.
