I am using an Addonics Sata Express card with no problems.. They were the low price leader when I got it.

No problems at all running Leopard and FC on my Mac Book Pro using the sata express card or the firewire express cards…

    Erik,

I got the Addonics 4 drive enclosure and 4 sata port – port multiplier card. Which has been running great except for one weekend, where it got funky, but was fixed with re-installing the driver.

You have to add your own drives. With card and 4x500gb sata’s everything was still under 800 bucks…

and yes it shows 200mb/sec in the Aja speed test….

Not bad deal,.,,,, but I still want a raid 5 unit…when the economy permits..

Get yourself a Dual eSata express card. Make sure that the card is Port Multiplier capable for future expansion. This is a two port esata card. Then go buy some esata enclosures and add blank drives to save money. Addonics.com have the express estata port multiplier cards for about 70 bucks.

    Paula,

I do not have the camera set up. And I am sure I was testing with 1080i/30 or 29.97 frames…

I do not know if their is a 24p limitation on it or not..

Make sure your camera is on free run for the computer must see running time code. Make sure the FCP project is set for 24p and the “capture now” window has uncontrollable device selected..

Let me know if you get it to work…. What are you recording too /How..

    Galen,

Any where you put the camera on a tripod, I can put a laptop and record 24 hours to mirrored drives with instant editing available. A backpack is to big for all the gear that I need to carry. More like a briefcase is all I need to carry besides the camera and tripod… And with that brief case I can download P2 cards, while I am out in the woods shooting on more P2 cards..

Portability and record times are not an issue.

If you want a Sony that bad go spend the money… Or if you hurry, you can still save 2K on the HPX500, the best camera period under 10K…

    Galen,

Just “How BIG Media” do you need?? I have used our HVX200 and HPX500 in studio test where we recorded over 24 hours to an attached MacBook Pro / mirrored sata drive.. Over 24 hours with out drop out or any other problems… That is a very BIG 24 hours of 1080HD.. via firewire….

Me thinks you need to expand your reading materials. Also check out the the DVXusers.com forum and read it all. I did. And my only regret is that due to the economy, I have not been able to really play with our new cameras yet..

    Welcome to HPX500 world Zack,

Your answers will depend on your workflow and the present gear you use. The 64GB P2 cards are supposed to be out this fall and that is what I am waiting for. 4- 64gigrs and you can shoot all day.

Currently I have 2 – 16gbs, but have been recording my studio stuff direct to disk. So save everything to multiple hard drives. They are cheap. You can mirror 2 sata drives to a MacBookPro very simply for downloads..

Shane, something to add to your “Shanes Knowledge base”

With Thanks to Chris…. Talk about customer service ….

Thanks for the note, and apologies for the problems. Some folks with FCP 5.1.4 just have problems, and we’re not entirely sure why.

Here’s how to fix things though:

Go to: HD > Library > Plugins > FxPlug

Then just delete the demo/dvG folder and you should be fine.

Alternatively, you might want to try out dvMatte Blast. We know that 99% of the time it doesn’t create a problem in FCP 5.1.4.

Let me know if you have any further trouble!

    Regards,
    Chris Marler

    Shane,

Is there a known problem with the dvMatte Pro demo?

I downloaded the Conduit demo and it works within FCP 5.1.4

Then I downloaded dvMattepro 3 demo and it locks up FCP, when FCP launches..

What happened? Any known Problems with demo

Sorry about your luck Zane,,,, but

The Addonics Express eSata card is working great with my Mac Book Pro 2.4, 4gb ram, 320 HD, 15 inch..

I have recorded 1080i DVCproHD for over 24 hours straight to the attached mirrored sata Hard drives (budget enclosures, budget drives) with NO problems, no drop outs. I have been using this combo with various enclosures and drives all summer… Works like a charm…
