Gary, thanks for your reply. BMD just replaced my Studio Convertor (bad xlr)in less than a week. I like your BMD support staff, so I replied to an earlier BMD support email and they mailed me the link. Thanks.
Is there a quick fast ATEM operation video tutorial available. Right now my biggest problem is understanding the networking part.
We have your ATEM1, Studio Convertor and Hyper Deck Studio in a 6-unit Gator rack and it is rocking. I turn it on and leave it on and it stays solid. With our HPX HD SDI cameras we have over 1,500 feet of Tactical camera cable…. this is solid, wonderful gear. My problem is fast trac training. How fast can I get the crew up to par? Any pointers.
Is it true, final question, Can I really use your DaVinci color correctors as on-location real-time camera shaders?

Found it, Thanks for the prodding…. It is under Sources in the menu. Yes you have to open the sources tab in Ustream pro/wirecast and tell ustream what is being fed into it. Just cause it sees the BMD Ultra Studio SDI in spigot does not mean that it recognizes what is coming in. I got 1080 and 720 to work just fine.
But what is the standard client conversation when you set up a remote web up link. Do you tell them it will be HD if their internet upload is robust enough 3, 5, ?MB upload. I ordered an upgrade to my internet just to get a 3MB upload speed (another $15/month) and it is not fast enough to upload full HD bandwidth bit rate. Ustream at the HD bandwidth with 3MB upload kept crapping out. It was stable at the lower “high bit rate” streaming 720p.. What is the target upload bitrate/cable speed for 720 ? For 1080? (SD will stream at the HD bit rate setting, but it is SD)
I am really amazed how the new video compression algorithms are so gentle on older highly compressed video. I can play back a 1/4 screen 3 year old QT or mp4 file at double it’s actual size and it actually looks way too good coming out of the BMD ATEM1 and Ustream.
Good stuff. Thanks for your help. Now into the brave new world of broadcast video from anywhere to everywhere….. very cool

Thanks for your reply. I am using Ustreams – 200 dollar Wirecast software to encode and upload to the web. It loves the SD out from the ATEM1.
What “bridge” software do I need to get the ATEM1 output down to the HDV bitrate that Ustream/Wirecast will accept. I am trying to stream HD not SD. Do I need another web streaming encoder instead of Ustream/wirecast?
Our new ATEM1 is a little clumsy with out the control panel. But we have it working, switching 4 HD DVCpro cameras, two Mac laptops and one iPad video feeds. Our target is to stream HD not SD while recording the ATEM HD program out. Any pointers are sure appreciated.
thanks

May 18, 2013 at 8:19 pm in reply to: Video Streaming with ATEM Television Studio and recorderGraham,
Sorry about your budget. I have an approved budget, just not huge, like Tricaster 8,000 huge.
I am Mac based, FCP guy with 4 HD-SDI cameras that I need to switch on-location and feed the web.
I own two current MacLaptops and a two month window to get the system up and running for the client.
I am trying to find current knowledge on the BMD ATEM Switcher series and what it takes to make it work. The forums and blogs read like the last 6 months did not exist for BMD switchers. What a great current topic for all the bloggers BMD ATEM Today.
What would your web video broadcasting system order form look like today? Maybe we can get a survey started.

May 18, 2013 at 6:28 pm in reply to: Video Streaming with ATEM Television Studio and recorderGraham, Did you get your BMD streaming studio up and running. How is it? Problems? I am leaning on getting an all BMD Me1 solution for our streaming upgrade. Price point is the consideration. So BMD still trumps Tricaster at the under 10K ceiling. Tell me your story.

I just got a Neway SDI-HD 7″ monitor. Still doing my test phase.
But it does look good. 1200×600, I think. Facts are not in-front of me.
Google Neway, tell Andy, Nate sent ya.
Flanders, FSI Monitors are wonderful too. Got one of those 21″ of sweetness

Is there an ‘ideal’ editing format?
Our P2 MXF footage is way easier than our old Betacam SP.
It is very consistent, the machine does not hang up as often and the edits are generally easier to do.
But then again, I have never tried to edit HD P2 MXF footage on my old G4 Cinewave either.
The clients love the image and the pay is steady. And a ROI is possible on the gear.
Two HPX500’s, one HPX170 and one HVX200 plus two Mac Pro desk tops and a couple laptops.
Considering we are documenting Gov’t Professional Development and putting it on the web, MXF is the perfect format to get it done.

Chris, it was a download from P2 to hard drive folder. It has been on the Hard drives from last fall.
The bad file was right in the middle of a bunch of clips that did transfer all from the same folder.
It would be nice if there was a certified cure.
Calibrated will do the job. It is just my gal likes to use Log and Transfer to break down the clips.
