I am looking at a new esata raid for my Mac Pro. I found Sans Digital in a EventDV Magazine article..

They have a good price on their enclosures…

Anybody have experience with Sans Digital gear and customer service???

I have read where the Port Multiplier technology can leave you searching for your hard drives. Has there been any improvement in the tech or upgrade on the Silicon Chip sets… This company uses the Silicon Image 3124A chipset..

I just tried one out. My advice is to skip it. I had kernel panics, FCP complete lockups and missing drives – all in the first day! Does not seem like a good record to me. That being said, it may just be the cheapo 1x Sata card that ships with the unit. There have been reports of success using different Sata cards. YMMV, mines boing back, glad I support local.

    Erik,

I got the Addonics 4 drive enclosure and 4 sata port – port multiplier card. Which has been running great except for one weekend, where it got funky, but was fixed with re-installing the driver.

You have to add your own drives. With card and 4x500gb sata’s everything was still under 800 bucks…

and yes it shows 200mb/sec in the Aja speed test….

Not bad deal,.,,,, but I still want a raid 5 unit…when the economy permits..

I have never used the word “boing” before in my life. I just want to make that clear.

What 4 port card are you using and what addonics box?
