Zane,,, they might have the same chip, but I think Addonics has the lowest of low prices 44 bucks and it supports Portmultiplier technology… And now they have the new Raid 5 express card for 55 bucks… just might have to look into that one..

Next time check out Addonics. They are a distributor of all sorts of cards, enclosures and hard drive hardware.

Their Express card sata, is mulitport capable and was under 80 bucks US. A Port -multiplier capable esata express card will allow you to plug in port multiplied hard drive enclosures to eash sata port.

so you can get about 8 esata drives plugged into a 2 port sata express card.

I have read of ways to trick the camera into achieving that look. And I think somebody even posted a video clip with that look.. If I recall Barry Green and another fellow perfected a way of using the scene file/set up card to trick the camera into slower shutter speeds.

No recommends here, I was happy with a CP technologies Platinum series enclosure… Just perfect.

Small, fanless, and ran on buss power… The next CP Tech, I purchased was a little longer and needed the USB power adapter….. all they did was change a chip on the bridge board and they needed more power…

I have found the “power” on buss powered drives to be dependent on what enclosure you have.. And even enclosures by the same manufacture are not going to give you the same performance..

I have many 2.5″ drives they are great for location work. I have recorded many hours of 1080DVCpro HD to them, but some of the drives (enclosures) can’t get enough power thru the firewire port. So they also have you plug in a USB to power plug adapter in the computers other USB port..

Take all the parts-n-plugs, test different drive enclosures and I always buy in pairs so I have a mirror drive and spare parts..

I have been just using the standard FCP green screen keyer.. I know that it does not get rave reviews. I thought that if I could get it to make wonderful keys quickly, than I would know that my green screen stage is lighted correctly and it would be an efficient key stage to do interviews. It is a small stage 9 feet wide, 12 feet high and with about 22 feet of total depth. So I can get the actor about 5 to 10 feet away from the green… Green spill has been a problem that I have mitigated with back lighting.

I played with the Primatt Keyer in Motion and it pulled a really nice key. Fingers where very clean, but the edges were a little rough and the actor turned a little purple… I might be able to adjust all this with a better understanding of Motion and the Primatt Keyer…

I am targeting quick interviews for clients. Come in,turn on the lights, load your speech in the teleprompter, sit or stand, and tell the world what you want them to hear. Then we will Key your images behind you. Quick, clean and simple is my goal.

It just seems that the old days of analog video where you just twisted the dials gain, clip, hue, is still quicker and preferable to this digital workflow. If it wasn’t all SD gear, I would turn it on..

The camera uses analog chip pixel shifting technology to get to 1080 then it can down-rez to 720 if so desired.

I have been testing to see if I like and have more success with 1080/30p or 24p.. and I think the verdict is for 30p..

It seems that you have more motion blur at 24p (duh)… Like when the the hand is illustrating a point of conversation. It is the motion blur that is presenting a difficult time to make a pretty key. The green screen tends to live in the blur, which means that your key has to be wider to remove the green in the blur. It is most noticeable between the fingers, so if you use 24p have your actors wear mittens.
