These may be oversampling artifacts ‘cos the plugin can’t decide which pixels go to which card. Not really much you can do about it. You could try to scale up your footage to twice the size in a pre-compand of course double all your sizes for the cards and Mosaic. This should improve the situation a bit. Then simply scale ther pre-comp-down again. When scaling up, set the layer to draft quality so pixels are only doubled, not interpolated, to maintain crispness.

Putting the stuff on layers certainly would be smart. For simple multiplication you shout consider effects such as Motion Tile so you don’t have a ton of separate clones in Illustrator. also do not forget about AE’s own Grid and Checkerboard effects which certainly can be used to build some of the facades. As for the animation – this is more or less just a simple matter of finding the right timing. Some oif the principles are illustrated in Andrew Kramer’s tutorial on building a DVD menu (the one with the oriental theme), so watch it.

You certainly mean a 4.7 GB disc, I assume? It’s not impossible, but you won’t be able to push the limit that much. 120 mins already means that you are working near the 3 MBit/sec lower limit for the video, so your only liberty would be to decrease the bitrate for the AC3 transcodes. A better solution would simply to split your footage at a suitable position and put it on two separate discs.

In addition to what Todd suggested, look for spaces and special characters. They can massively screw AE on occasion.

I suppose these shortcuts are used by another crappy “custom function key” on this particular keyboard. However, I’m certain it came with CD that contains a config program to change such assignments. Perhaps it’s already installed. Check your Control panel, perhaps the Advanced keyboard settingss will reveal it.

No. Echo simply accumulates existing buffers. For what you are trying to do you will probably have to find some third-party plugin, though I’m not aware if such a thing exists. The way I picture it, a good place to start would be using Trapcode’s Echospace or Digital Anarchy’s

Mmh, distortion? That would mean it was in the original footage somehow (block artifacts or digital flicker) or you are using some crooked footage settings or time remapping. No idea where it would be coming from otehrwise.
