Yupp, pretty much a 1:1 rehash of Ayato’s stuff. Not particularly imaginative.

Your layers would have to have implicit UV coordinates based on transforming the world space coordinates which is something AE does not have the slightest idea about. The best solution would be doing it in a 3D program where it’s an absolute no-brainer. If you don’t, then like Barend said Card Dance is pretty much the only real alternative. Shatter might also work to some degree, but it’s more difficult to control as obviously it only uses two radial forces. If for some reason you can’t use any of the plugins, you have to take the bitter pill to build 300-pre-comps for your individual layers.

[rafa calleja] “mylenium cheers for ur answer… would u animate the expansion of the mask with the roughen edges above or keyframe the change of the mask shape using smart mask interpolation….do u think this will give a smooth feeling??? well the example from youtube is quite bad quality but guess that the full quality result is quite smooth, don

[imcbain] “Except with card dance, you take ONE still and it cuts it into pieces. I want hundreads of small individual stills to fly on-screen and form a shape. I also want them to “fly on” as if the were being fired from a single source, not from all around.”

And what stops you from assembling them into one large image, matching the tile sizes? What’s the problem with having to create driver layers and animate them to get the behavior you want? I completely fail to see the difficulty in that and don’t understand why you simply don’t follow this line. Anyway, what you want can probably also be achieved with Particular by using your images as custom particles. Place them all in a pre-comp, each only 1 frame long. In the main comp, use that pre-comp as a custom particle. Set the sampling method to one of the “Split clip” types and make the number of clips equal to the number of images in the pre-comp. As emitter type, use a layer grid. Obviously this layer grid needs to be based on an animated emission map which you have to do in yet another pre-comp. Then it’s only a matter of getting the dimensions of the emitter right so your photos form a perfect grid. When emitted, you can target them towards a point in space by using a very stron radial field with a negative value. With your setup in place, put it in another comp and time-reverse it. It will now look like your images are being spit out from a point in space, finding their palce on thee grid.

Create a text spline, animate the text, put it an extrude Nurbs. Duplicate the deformer or group your objects together with the deformer (your Sphere, Extrude Nurbs and deformer need to be on the same level,; the deformer must be the last item in the list).

You can combine clips on the timeline, but it can cause problems on multiplexing (GOPs do not line up and that kinda stuff) that will show themselves as gaps/ stutter which is exactly what you do not want. BTW, FAT 32 handles files up to 8GB, the 2 GB chunks are to blame on the hardware/ software forcibly truncating files. Unless there is a reason, I’d not use this approach and “cleanly” transcode the files before bringing them inside Encore.

They look pretty syynthetic to me – animated masks with the Roughen Edges effect on top of them. Should work for you as well, though personally I’d probably prefer shooting some real ink blots.

January 6, 2007 at 11:07 pm in reply to: Card Wipe question

Ah, so you mean Card Dance, not Card Wipe?! In that case most likely your brightness of the driver layer (the Fractal noise) is fluctuating at some point. Maybe it’s too small in size, maybe it’s moving in some way or the Levels effect is shifting the colors from plain b/w to greys. In that case you’d simply have to adjust those parameters or apply additional effects to compensate.

Maybe one of your plugins is not 100% compatible to AE 7. Try to remove all third-party plugins and see if the problem is persistent or goes away.
