I have a client who is going to provide me with footage of an ocean wave rushing onto sand on a beach. When the ocean wave pulls back he wants the wave to reveal his company logo which he wants as an imprint in the sand. I’m thinking the first part would be just animating a mask to reveal the logo? Secondly, how do you make the logo look like an impression in the sand; like a footprint? I’m thinking maybe make two layers one with the imprint and one without revealing the one underneath? I’m stumped. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. As for the footage, I have no doubt it will be NTSC 720×480 interlaced DV. Thanks in advance.

Thanks. I think you just solved 2 problems in one. By animating the Roughen Edges border and playing with the edge sharpness it already looks like sand being washed away. I’ll probably still use masks but this does give it a much more authentic feel.

Also check Aharon’s Tutorial. It illustrates exactly this type of setup. Click on the guy with the slappy hat to get to the list.
