Is the tape copy protected? What analog/digital converter are you using?
Are you trying to watch the tape on a TV AND capture at the same time? If yes, what kind of distribution amp are you using? -

The darn thing now is like loosely knit together with rubber threads. It falls apart easily and panels get lost.

File size is not an issue, resolution is. Resize stills to 1200 x 900 (or 900 x 1200 for portrait) in Photoshop. Make sure ” Default Scale to frame size” is deselected in Preferences> General BEFORE importing them into Pro.

You can copy/paste effects from Photoshop and AE into Pro, some work, some dont.

The Pref file has no file extension and Windows sees it only as a “file”, but when opened in Notepad, one can see this
Dont know if it can be edited without assigning a file type. -
The 2100’s have a manual white balance. It takes less than a minute. In the church and then again in the reception hall, lay a piece of white paper on a chair, fill the screen with the white paper, switch to manual white ballance and press the “bow tie” icon. Switch back to auto for outdoor shots.
Color cast is probably the easiest thing to correct in post with a good NLE like Premiere Pro. -
Preference files are XML and version specific. You might try opening the one from 2.o in Notepad and change the version to 3.

Premiere does not “render” any files anywhere other than the Scratch discs set in Preferences.
While nested sequences show a need to be rendered, I see no reason to do so. With a relatively fast computer, I seldom render any preview files in original sequences. -
Did a little test for you;
PP2 conformed the audio in a 4 minute .mov in about 12 seconds, PP3 did it in less than 2 seconds. Both to the same internal drive. -
