still file size
Posted by Garyl on November 6, 2007 at 12:37 amWhat is the optimum file size for stills in standard 4×3 project? If I want to pan and zoom what should I increase the file size to?

November 6, 2007 at 11:17 amFile size is not an issue, resolution is. Resize stills to 1200 x 900 (or 900 x 1200 for portrait) in Photoshop. Make sure ” Default Scale to frame size” is deselected in Preferences> General BEFORE importing them into Pro.

November 6, 2007 at 2:41 pmIf you don’t zoom or pan, the ideal size is “native” (720×486 for NTSC). If you are doing image manipulations, then try to have close to that as the smallest area you are going in to.

November 9, 2007 at 2:24 pmI have to agree with Mike. It’s not the size of your image its the res. If you blow up a 72dpi image from 720×480 video to 1200×900 that doesn’t mean you have more detail in your pic. Start with the highest possible image resolution and dpi (300). Then you can bring in a MAX image size of 4096×4096. This image can be zoomed into about 4.5 times before you lose quality in an SD res project. So resize your photos to keep maintain scale ratio to be max high or wide 4096×4096 (4:3 would be 4096×3072)
