The closest Premiere has is Page-down, Ctrl+D and then repeat that to insert the default transition at edit points.

Interesting question! I dont understand how any project file could get that large. I have seen project files of an amateur videographer approach 50 MB. It took 3-4 minutes to load and then finally got corrupted. Other rather simple projects of his were about 25 mb.
We have had discussions here with no conclusion. I suspect that editing style might cause it, specifically editing in the timeline rather than the Source window.
I just finished a wedding…4 sequences, 1 hour long, tons of cuts. Project file size is 1.7 mb. Dance recitals in excess of 2 hours, 2 camera shoots and seldom in excess of 3 mb.New to CS3 is embedded titles into the project file which might make it a bit larger than 2.0.

Subclips are created in the Source window and can be dragged to the timeline. Further, subclips do not contain original timecode so cant be used to recapture anything. You will need to recapture the entire tape (s).

Footage can be viewed in the Source window and the Program window among several others. Suspect you are viewing the Timeline (Program window). If you are seeing artifacts there that is not on the footage, I would update video card drivers and then experiment with its overlay settings.

You can drag the clip from the source window back into the Project window and name it as a subclip, but I dont understand how this is going to help.
Other options involve dual layer discs or use WinRar or Winzip to break up a large folder into 4 gb zipped chunks. -

How are you making DVD’s with the trial version? It has no Mpeg exporting options? What is your workflow?

Are you in After Effects? Premiere has lots of windows, but no composite window…Source Window? Program window? Trim Window?

Mpeg 2 for DVD supports a 16:9 switch that most software and hardware DVD players recognize and change the resulting display accordingly. Other formats do not.

Check out the Project Manager feature (Project>Project Manager). Archive “untrimmed” version to an external hard drive.
To locate the original in and out points, select the clip in the timeline and press T key.
