Paul, Edward is right in that North America hasn’t caught on to the rest of the world and made our electronics multi-standards capable 🙁
You’re stuck with sending an NTSC DVD over here which is 720 x 480.

Hi John. First of all, Vegas 4 is up to version 4.0e. I’d recommend grabbing that right away as there were several bug fixes as it went along.

As far as the latest version is concerned, it’s entirely up to you. I made the jump from 4 to 5 more fore DVDA 2 than anything else and it was worth it. Looking at the new features in Vegas 6 & DVDA 3, it’s only a matter of time. I plan to do the upgrade before the end of May (to take advantage of the price saving) but I may wait for 6.0b (Vegas is currently at 6.0a) before installing it. Some users on this and other forums have had no problems at all while others have had several. You can run 6 and 4 on the same machine as the new install doesn’t overwrite previous versions.

Once again, it’s up to you but, for the many added features in both, I’d do it.

It actually did not turn out that bad.

If you right-click on the track and select properties, it brings up a “Time stretch / pitch shift” options menu. I have yet to play with it but it’s my understanding that this may help fix the sound somewhat.

May 7, 2005 at 1:01 am in reply to: Vegas and DVCpro50??

Sorry to bear the bearer of bad tidings Lance but, as of right now, it can’t be done 🙁
There was a thread about this issue on another Vegas forum recently and this was Sony’s response:

“IF there were a 3rd party capture/print module to get files on and off of the computer and IF the codec were something Vegas could access, you’d be able to do DVCPRO HD in Vegas 4, 5, or 6.
DVCPRO50 currently “works” similarly- all you need is the codec installed to edit the files, i/o is handled by something external.”

I stretched music the other night…

A 2 sec. stretch, as you found out, is asking a lot of a song.
However, Edward was talking about stretching the pictures to match the music (I’ve done this several times myself), not the other way around.

If you’re capturing with firewire, you’ve already got the highest quality possible.

The FAQ at Edward Troxel’s site should answer all your questions.

If you haven’t already done so, I’d suggest checking the white paper pdf from Sony. As I recall, it deals with the issues you’re talking about.

There’s a script called “RemoveAllEffects” in the package at https://s92274348.onlinehome.us/vegas.html
    It’ll do what you want.

Try using the “match media settings” option in Vegas to see if it’ll do what you want. Start a new project but don’t open anything yet. Click the “properties” icon (or go file – properties). In this window, click the “match media settings” icon (looks like a file folder). Now browse to wherever you have the file thewy created in PPro and double-click it. You should now have that file’s settings for your project.
