  • .. & make the image more stable,

    To do that, try this
guide to using Deshaker. All tools in it are free and supposedly it does a decent job of stabilizing footage.

In the standard Windows “volume control” app, go to OPtions – Properties – Recording. Make sure that the necessary inputs are selected. After doing that, make sure the record volumes are up for the desired channels. If you’re using something other than the Windows volume controller, the settings will be similar. HTH.

Also, my default Empty Events is 7 seconds. Is there a way to shorten this default time?

It should be the same as setting normal event times. Options – Preferences – Editing – New still image length (seconds).

Hello yourself. Things finally cooling off down under?
I do need to send you an email soon. Back to business though.

is there a batch render in the clip bin

    Not that I’m aware of.

or do i have to render each individually on the timeline?

Simplest thing (I think) is to drag the subclips up to the timeline, leave a little space between each, and create regions out of each one (double-click and hit R – give each one a name if you want to). Then run the batch render script (comes with V5, I think) making sure to give it a name. Select “Render Regions” and choose the file format you want to render to. The only gotcha is that it’ll name all the rendered clips that name so you may have to go back in later and rename them to whatever you want. HTH.

is it as simple as saying – save subclips – and deleting the rest

Do that Leslie and your subclips, as well as your original footage, will disappear!!
That’s because a subclip is simply a set of pointers to the ins & outs of the clip it came from.
If you really want to delete unwanted portions of the original material, render the subclip and re-name it to something that makes sense to you. Only then is it safe to do a right-click > remove from project and delete file(s).
Hope that makes sense as I’m just finishing my morning coffee and am not fully awake yet 🙂

As long as the camera has the pass-through feature, certainly. Your manual should tell you if it has it.

You need to convert the analog signal from your 8mm. tape to a firewire signal. This can be done by using a miniDV camcorder that has the pass-through feature (analog in – firewire out) or a box like the Canopus ADVC-110.

[herr] “how would i go about installing it?”

Double-click on the file you downloaded and follow the instructions. It should say something like “A previous version was detected. Do you want to update?” or something like that.

May 9, 2005 at 2:05 pm in reply to: Using a PAL DVD in USA/Canada?

Found the post I was looking for. The recommended procedure (thanks to Robert Grant) is as follows:

Simply render to NTSC from a PAL project. I set Deinterlace Method to Merge Fields and turn on Reduce Interlace Flicker on the event(s).
The only downside to this is you will get some motion blur from the de-interlacing which is needed for the frame rate conversion. I’ve found this quite acceptable.

Do you just render the existing PAL project as NTSC?
Also, is it best to do this in Vegas or DVDA?

Anny, I’ve never tried it myself but, from reading past posts here and on other Vegas forums, it’s my understanding that you simply render the file out as NTSC from a Vegas PAL file.
