Try File – Import – DVD Camcorder disc and see if that’s any better.

I’ve got DVDA 1, 2 & 3 as well as Vegas 4, 5, 6 & 7 on my machine.
They’re all separate programs and won’t interfere with each other.

Gary’s suggestion brings up a good point and that is to stick to known good media.
Taiyo Yuden is generally the brand most recommended.
I’ve been using Verbatims (both silver & printable) and have never had a return or a disc go bad. This brand also gets good reviews.
Lastly, DVD Identifier is an excellent (and free) tool to have. It will tell you who the disc’s real manufacturer is.

It’ll definitely be faster than capturing into Vegas, rendering and burning. What you won’t get though is anything you can do in Vegas & DVDA such as titles, audio & video corrections, fancy menus, etc.
Think of it as a replacement for your old VHS recorder.

#1. Lock the camera down on a tripod so that it doesn’t move.
I can’t stress this enough as it will make things much easier.
#2. Frame the shot to ensure that you’ll be in it no matter which side you’re sitting on.
#3. Shoot scene 1. Change seating sides. Shoot scene 2.
If you can have someone else saying your other lines to you,it’ll help with the pacing. Just make sure not to verbally step on each other. Also, make sure to shoot a few seconds of extra footage at the beginning and end of each scene.
#4. Use cookie cutter or a slide effect to split the screen to show both of “you”.

My understanding is that MOST European DVD players will handle NTSC DVDs. If they have an older model player or TV, they may not be able to.
The good news is that making a PAL DVD from an NTSC original is very easy.
Don’t worry about regions as any DVD created in DVD Architect is region free by default.
