Since the camera is HDV , try using the internal capture app, even though you’re only shooting DV.
I borrowed a friend’s Sony Z1 this past summer and, even though some of my shooting was in DV mode, I still had to use the internal capture app because of the camera.
Since nothing else seems to work, it’s worth a try. -
Did you try any of the suggestions you got from your earlier post?
Video noise reduction is a very tough thing to do and requires lots of patience as well as skill in using the appropriate tools.
Can you post a frame grab anywhere for us to try and help? -
It’s perfectly normal and doesn’t affect quality.
DVD Architect keeps note of what was done in a “Prepare” file and, if any changes are made, it references this file and only makes the changes that are necessary. -

Render them out as umcompressed AVIs and bring them into Vegas.
Don’t forget the alpha channel if needed.

Sorry but no. While you can create the video for an animated menu in Vegas, any DVD menus, autoplay or other DVD features are created in DVD Architect (or whatever DVD authoring app you may use).

Use the paint program of your choice, preferably something that has alpha channel capability. If you don’t have that feature, make a blank white canvas, draw 4 lines for the safe area (10% & 90% marks respectively) and a centre cross in black. Save this, bring it into Vegas and key out the white portion.

Is it opening the external capture app (DV) instead of the internal (HDV) one?

Mike Crash has some filters on his site that a lot of folks like, specifically the Dynamic Noise Reduction one.
Make sure to apply it in small increments as a little goes a long way. -
Al, I’m a long-time Velocity user as well. BTW, I recognized your name from the dps Edits forum.
Haven’t been using it too much lately though as the students find Vegas much easier to use 🙂As far as rendering goes, keep in mind that you’re dealing with Vegas, not with Velocity, which means that you do have to do a render ANYTIME you want to dump something out. The realtime render is one of the few things I like about the Velocity.
I hate to say this but the problem seems to be your DSR-40. I searched other Vegas forums and only found two references to it which I’ll quote here in the hopes that it might help you. Unfortunately the OP for #2 never replied back as to whether it worked for him or not 🙁

Anyone using MS with Sony DSR-40 DVcam deck? I can’t get the program to print to tape. The machine controls are okay but after I hit the print to tape button the file does not transfer.A#1:

I plugged a DSR-40 desk into my computer via firewire and expected XP to treat it like any other camera I’ve tried. It brought up the “new device” boxes, couldn’t find a driver for an “AV/C Tuner” and it shows a yellow question mark in Device Manager.In Vegas, I’m capturing fine using the deck, but I’m getting nothing out to the monitor when I playback from the timeline. I’ve tried the monitor out as well as the video out. I can play tapes out from the deck and they show on the monitor fine. I’m assuming this has something to do with XP not “installing” it correctly. I’ve tried the DV IEEE setting (on vs off) to no avail. Any tips?

If you remove the device with the yellow question mark and leave it turned on, when you reboot windows will see a new device and ask to search for drivers automatically.Click OK and if it has drivers it will install them, if not it will ask you for a disk or path where they can be located. If you have drivers then tell windows where they are.
If this doesn’t work, then I suggest dropping an email to Sony and asking them or maybe Dr. Dropout will show up and offer some suggestions.

Have you considered having the cameraman do a “print to tape” of what he’s edited so far and then dumping it back into Vegas?
