You’ll need a way to combine the DV video out and the audio being sent via audio card. Best to use Print to Tape to output both via firewire (this may involve some rendering).

Thanks Gary, but this is really disheareting..I used to be able to do this in Vegas..running a firewire to my deck and then out to the PROGRAM monitor.

Why can we just record the live signal that we get when we preview on an external monitor (which does not work right, either as the image is all screwed up. like it’s out of sync)

So…I need some advise here, too

I know that Premier has no problem doing this.

Could I have someting set up wrong in V7 ?

Al, your responses here and in the other forum you posted this to are somewhat confusing.
First of all, very few set top DVD recorders will allow you to hook up a firewire cable from your computer and record to them.

I know that Premier has no problem doing this.
Doing what? Printing to yuor set top DVD recorder or viewing on an external monitor?

    Finally , you originally said:

In all my years of using Vegas, I’ve never had an image get I>all screwed up by feeding it to an external monitor. I come out of the computer to either a Canopus ADVC 100 or a JVC SR-VS30U miniDV/SVHS deck and then to the monitor. It’s always worked great.

Thanks Mike..I guess in my frustration..I confused things

    Here is my configuration

DSR -40 firewire to my computer.

The DSR also has BNC to a Panasonic AG-7750 deck which runs to a monitor so I can TRY to record the video out of VEGAS and see the image on an external monitor

The DSR 40 was no problem digitizing and being controlled by VEGAS, but the video out to the monitor is all screwed up as if is out as sync or actually feeding back at the same time. The image is wavy and all colors are distorted. I have not tried it run the BNC to the monitor directly, but the point is I want to record the image that I see on the INTERNAL preview window.

Al, I’m a long-time Velocity user as well. BTW, I recognized your name from the dps Edits forum.
Haven’t been using it too much lately though as the students find Vegas much easier to use 🙂

As far as rendering goes, keep in mind that you’re dealing with Vegas, not with Velocity, which means that you do have to do a render ANYTIME you want to dump something out. The realtime render is one of the few things I like about the Velocity.

I hate to say this but the problem seems to be your DSR-40. I searched other Vegas forums and only found two references to it which I’ll quote here in the hopes that it might help you. Unfortunately the OP for #2 never replied back as to whether it worked for him or not 🙁

    Q#1:
Anyone using MS with Sony DSR-40 DVcam deck? I can’t get the program to print to tape. The machine controls are okay but after I hit the print to tape button the file does not transfer.

    A#1:
User error involved here. Forgot that the DSR-40 has input selection and it was set to non-DV input.

    Q#2:
I plugged a DSR-40 desk into my computer via firewire and expected XP to treat it like any other camera I’ve tried. It brought up the “new device” boxes, couldn’t find a driver for an “AV/C Tuner” and it shows a yellow question mark in Device Manager.

In Vegas, I’m capturing fine using the deck, but I’m getting nothing out to the monitor when I playback from the timeline. I’ve tried the monitor out as well as the video out. I can play tapes out from the deck and they show on the monitor fine. I’m assuming this has something to do with XP not “installing” it correctly. I’ve tried the DV IEEE setting (on vs off) to no avail. Any tips?

    A#2:
If you remove the device with the yellow question mark and leave it turned on, when you reboot windows will see a new device and ask to search for drivers automatically.

Click OK and if it has drivers it will install them, if not it will ask you for a disk or path where they can be located. If you have drivers then tell windows where they are.

If this doesn’t work, then I suggest dropping an email to Sony and asking them or maybe Dr. Dropout will show up and offer some suggestions.
