Hi, I am using a JVC HD100 (filming in DV) on Windows with Sony Vegas. I have not been able to capture anything in a while, although before the sudden problem I was able to with ease. I sent both the camera and the computer in to get them fixed, and when they both returned, still nothing happened. When I plug my firewire into the computer, nothing happens. I will turn the camera on, and set it to the video preview where it would normally capture from, and still nothing. Last night for the first time, I turned it on while it was plugged in with the firewire, and it made that sound on the computer, but the option thing asking which editing system I would like to use did not pop up, like it used to when this was all problem free. I went right to Vegas and went to capture video, but it said to connect the device although it was connected. I am wondering if anyone knows what to do, or if there is a way on Windows where I can get to that thing where it asks what program I would use. It also shows an icon on the bottom right on the blue bar, of a camera with a cable by it.

Since the computer and camera have been checked, have you tried a different firewire cable?

Is it opening the external capture app (DV) instead of the internal (HDV) one?

Since the camera is HDV , try using the internal capture app, even though you’re only shooting DV.
I borrowed a friend’s Sony Z1 this past summer and, even though some of my shooting was in DV mode, I still had to use the internal capture app because of the camera.
Since nothing else seems to work, it’s worth a try.
