If you’re running Pro 9, the first thing to do is to update to 9.0e as it’s the latest version and may contain bug fixes that will help fix your problem.

  • James, try HDV Split (it’s free).

It could also be that you need try a legacy firewire driver.

    Click Start

    Then click on Control Panel
    Click on Device Manager

Under the Device Manager, look down the list for IEEE 1394 Bus Host Controllers and Double Click on it.

It should display something like – 1394 OHCI Compliant Host Controller. If it has the word (Legacy) behind it, you are already setup and your problem lies elsewhere.

Next, double click on the 1394 OHCI Compliant Host Controller
A window will popup saying 1394 OHCI Compliant Host Controller
    Properties
    Click on the Driver Tab
Then look down in the widow and click on Update Driver
Then select – Browse my computer for driver software
Next select – Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer

It will bring up a list of drivers.
Click on 1394 OHCI Compliant Host Controller (Legacy)

    Click Next

Once it installs the 1394 OHCI Compliant Host Controller (Legacy),
it will say Windows has successfully updated your driver software.

Click on the Close button and exit out of all of the other windows.

  • I’ve been using FreeStudio 5 (it’s free) for a long time and remain very happy with it.
I save my downloads in HD mp4 format which load very easily into Vegas.
All you need is a recent version of QuickTime player and you’re all set.

That’s the “expanded edit” mode, new to Pro 12.
The shortcut key is 5 on the numeric keypad.
More info starting on p. 161 of the manual.

Open Pan/Crop on each event, right-click in the middle, select “Match Output Aspect” and the black bars should disappear.

My pleasure Martin. I’ve done this a number of times and have dealt with all kinds of audio boards (consumer and pro) so that’s why the caution to have all kinds of adapter cables and do a test before the big event.

  • If I understand you correctly, this is what the Batch Render script that’s built into Pro 10 is for.
Create a region around each song, run the script (Tools – Scripting – Batch Render) and follow the prompts.
You also have the option to render each one in multiple formats if you want.

[Martin Phillips] “This is making more sense now…. one way around it i guess would be to get the channel 2 audio directly from their mixing desk.”

If you can do it, that way is the best.
I like to take an AUX out from their mixer with (hopefully) only the music feed assigned to that AUX.
Make sure they tape it or somehow secure it so that it doesn’t get bumped during the festivities.
AUX outs are usually at line level (either +4 or -10) so make sure your gear can handle it.
Make sure you have every kind of audio adapter cables with you and do some tests beforehand to ensure that you’re getting a good audio level to your camera.

DJs are notorious for doing this. It would be OK if they left the pitch control alone as you could do a time stretch in Vegas but a lot of them change it back to normal (or speed it up) after the crossfade 🙁

Thanks Steve. I had a dealer tell me that it would work but I like confirmation from folks that have actually done it 🙂
