Sony Vegas Pro 12 1394 Fire Wire issues iwth Papnsonic AG-DV2000 DECK…

First of all I took the Deck in to check the Fire Wire OUT.
It works the Panasonic TECH even loaded Vegas Pro 9 on his LabTop
and it captured from the DECK.
However When I take this working Deck Home.
Plug it in to my Vegas Pro 12 Setup it will not capture video even though the Computer says it sees the Deck? It’s Got to Be a Vegas Pro 12 Issue!
I must add that if I plug in my Panasonic DV-X100 Camera in to the exact same Fire Wire Port with the exact same wire. It Works like a Champ!
I don’t want to use my camera to dump Video to the Vegas 12 Pro setup.
Anyone got any ideas as to what could be the problem?

This may not be your problem but I recently couldn’t download any of my footage from my camera to my laptop. It drove me crazy and it ended up that the firewire port was bad EVEN THOUGH the firewire port DID recognize the camera. It was bizarre.
You’d think that the firewire would either work or not work but that was not the case with me. It worked in that it did see the camera but that was all.

    Nope,
This can’t be the problem because the Fire Wire Port has been tested and works on the Camera if you’re reffering to the Deck Fire Wire it works too! The Tech showed me it did on his workbench setup with an early version of Vegas Pro 9 I’m On 12 now and I’m thinking they did something….??

    My two cents’ worth:

There are two kinds of 1394 Firewire interfaces…those with the Texas Instruments chipset, and those without.

Vegas will only “reliably” support the TI chipset, and it’s more a Windows issue than a Vegas issue.

I battled this problem some years back with an earlier version of Vegas Pro and it was finally resolved when I broke out my old TI 1394 board from my mothballed computer and put it in my new PC, which had the non-TI 1394 interface.

    Worked perfectly ever since.

Ok, did you read the part where I said literally the same set up worked with the Panasonic DV-X100 Camera but NOT the Panasonic AG-DV2000 Deck? So I paid the Panasonic Tech at our local repair facility to Test the Deck. He called me back and Proved the Deck Works with his early version of Vegas Pro 9. I’m on Vegas Pro 12.
So we can get the Camera to work on MY SETUP.
    And
We can get the Deck to work on Another Setup so the Deck Works…
    What am I missing?

James, try HDV Split (it’s free).
    https://strony.aster.pl/paviko/hdvsplit.htm

It could also be that you need try a legacy firewire driver.

    Click Start

    Then click on Control Panel
    Click on Device Manager

Under the Device Manager, look down the list for IEEE 1394 Bus Host Controllers and Double Click on it.

It should display something like – 1394 OHCI Compliant Host Controller. If it has the word (Legacy) behind it, you are already setup and your problem lies elsewhere.

Next, double click on the 1394 OHCI Compliant Host Controller
A window will popup saying 1394 OHCI Compliant Host Controller
    Properties
    Click on the Driver Tab
Then look down in the widow and click on Update Driver
Then select – Browse my computer for driver software
Next select – Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer

It will bring up a list of drivers.
Click on 1394 OHCI Compliant Host Controller (Legacy)

    Click Next

Once it installs the 1394 OHCI Compliant Host Controller (Legacy),
it will say Windows has successfully updated your driver software.

Click on the Close button and exit out of all of the other windows.

Actually this sparked a bit of an idea on my part.
I recently rebuilt a Windows XP Pro box so I could still support
my old Digital Rapids DRC-1500 Card. It’s pretty powerful for an
XP-PRO setup so I’m going to reinstall both the DRC-1500 board which has the very old TI chipset in it along with the original last known working drivers available for that board. I’m also throwing in an old Pinnacle Studio MovieBoard in this mix which also has the older legacy FireWire Connections and Chipset. Also older Drivers etc.
If the Panasonic AG-DV2000 doesn’t work on either of those then I don’t know what to try next.
My other problem is I’m having trouble with Networking Windows 7 Machines together with Windows XP Pro Machines. But I’ll leave that for another post. That problem is intermittent and sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t so I’ll address this next. Do you have a forum for that kind of stuff?

Ok, I was able to install the Legacy drivers. The Devices list hasn’t really changed.
    I have:
    BLACK MAGIC WDM Capture
Cirrus Logic USB-DRV2 Source (This seems to be the right one)
    DeckLink Video Capture

It told me to recycle the power on the device because it couldn’t read it. Then after that I’m getting a blue boxed screen message in Vegas Pro 12 caputure that says Preview is Turned off.
I had gotten that message before but could not find out anything about turning “Preview” back on???
Thank you for your advice on this.

I just noticed something regarding my devices list.
Using Sony Video Capture as before when I hook up the fire wire to the DV-X100 Camera it does work as before but key to that is the fact that I now see listed under devices ” Microsoft DV Camera and VCR ” That does NOT show up in the Sony Video Capture list when I plug the same fire wire setup to my Panasonic AG-DV2000 Deck. So there is an issue with the Microsoft DV Camera and VCE Drivers NOT SEEING the Deck?
    Any Ideas??
