You don’t say what version of Vegas you’re using or what format you’re rendering to.
The usual recommendation is to use the Internet 720 or 1080 preset found under the MainConcept or Sony AVC mp4 template. Which one to choose depends on your version of Vegas.

  • The term you’re looking for is Lower Third.
There are a number of tutorials (both Photoshop and Vegas – YouTube is a great resource for this) on the web or you can buy pre-made ones from companies such as VASST.

  • I personally don’t use Premier Pro or Avid so all I can suggest is that you try it and see if it works. If it does, great. If not, then you have no choice but to convert the files to Pro Res.

  • [sad sad] “I can’t play that footage in QT too.”

    That’s not a good sign.
Do you have a small clip that you can upload to a site such as Dropbox for us to try on our systems with a different QT version?
If you access to a Mac, render it out in ProRes and import that into Vegas.

  • What version of QuickTime player do you have installed?

  • This is a real stab in the dark but make sure the view in your project media tab is set to list or detailed, not thumbnail.

  • [Brad Leigh] “Audio can be slid less then a frame with Quantize to frames on, as long as ripple is off and the audio event is not grouped to a video event or ignoreevent grouping is selected.I do it everyday. I was surprised to learn this myself. I believe John R said this may go as far back as version 8.”

This became an option in Pro 9.
From the Pro 9 Readme notes:

Audio-only edits (such as event moves, trims, and ASR times) are no longer quantized to frame boundaries by default when Quantize to Frames is enabled.
If you want to quantize audio-only edits, clear the Do not quantize to frames for audio-only edits check box on the Preferences > Editing tab.

Mike, the Lenovo brand gets pretty good reviews from users on here. There are several different models to choose from.

The usual recommendation is that, unless you’re doing a very deep zoom, stills don’t need to be any larger than 2X your project size.
For example, if you working on a standard def project, your stills don;t need to be any larger than 1440 x 960.
Use a free app like IrfanView to reduce the size (in pixels) of the file down to a manageable size.

Since you’re zooming out to shrink the image, consider using Track Motion as it will shrink the images much better than Pan/Crop.
