Good laptop for Vegas???
Posted by Mike Hinkel on March 26, 2013 at 12:56 pmI need to get a laptop for some duties I was volunteered for. I thought since I need one I would incorporate Vegas Pro into it. What would be a good choice on a limited budget. I’m trying to get some funds toward it. Might be easier if I had a number to put forward. At that it might be a stretch.

March 26, 2013 at 4:54 pmHow much is the budget? Where do you plan on keeping the video clips- on an internal drive or fast external drive? If internal, you’ll want a laptop that has 2 hard drives in it (preferably fast drives). You’ll want an Intel Ivy Bridge i5 processor at the minimum and a dedicated GPU- no integrated CPU graphics.
Just an fyi- usually ‘budget system’ and video editing laptop are items that might not mix well together.

March 26, 2013 at 10:33 pmThanks for the insight, Dave. I’m looking at a $1000 at most on my part. My thoughts were to get an external hard drive for the video.

You can say that ‘budget system’ doesn’t mix with most things computer related or otherwise. Every now and then you can find a way without spending a fortune. -

March 27, 2013 at 12:03 pmThanks Mike. I’ll look into what they have to offer. I looked at a few brands at the local chains using Dave’s advice. I was hoping a salesperson could expand on my inquiries. Walked out with just as many questions.

March 30, 2013 at 12:40 amI have an Lenovo ideapad Z570 with 4gb of ram, win7 and i7-2670 @2.2ghz, bought it in may 2012
I am happy with it and got it for about $540 on Ebay. I was not happy when I had to send it in for repair but it was under warranty and the turn around was quick. their CS was also helpful.
