    Mark,

I wasn’t complaining just commenting and how true Walter’s statement was. We have come to expect all programs to be multi-functional where as this is a one trick pony, once again not a complaint just an observation.

1st you can playback DVCProHD without a card, you would not be able to monitor it to a TV though with the card you have.

I think the idea workflow, if you can, would be to capture the HDCAM footage as DVCProHD and then recapture you HDV tape as DVCProHD also. Don’t know if the amount of footage you have or it the Post House has a HDV deck or camera with HD SDI out. This way you edit in DVCProHD and then take you project back and master that to the HDCAM deck. This may cause you more time and money at this end but it would save on the back end. Plus I think your quality is going to be better than editing and finishing in HDV.

Alternative would be to upgrade to FCS2 and use the mutl format timeline. Capture the HDCAM as DVCProHD, edit in DVCProHD Timeline it will playback with the HDV. render out the final as DVCProHD or ProRes.

[walter biscardi] ” it’s unlike anything you’ve ever used on a Mac.”

Boy is that an understatement! You really need to prep a project before going into Color.

Not sure if this is the cause but with FCP6 and Motion3 there are more advanced rendering choices that increase quality and render time, these can be lowered to FCP5 and Motion2 levels and I wonder if the rendering hit would go away.

Compressor3 has a lot of improvements in it (and some of these cost time also).

Personally I would check to see if there was anything that you needed in any of the FCS2 improvements and way it against the time hit.

It is never wrong to stay with what is working for you now if it does everything you need. 🙂

the driver for 10.4.9 is a beta but is working fine for me. one of the notes is that if you eject the adapter (not just the card) you need to reboot. I have not found that to be so. The speed is much better than connecting the camera or a P2Store.

you may have to deal with a work around if you are on 10.4.9 but i think this a the best solution for in the field at this time.

The RCA and SVHS both are active as well and are SD. So you can have a HD and SD monitor hooked up at the same time.

But if you want this to be an aid to focus you probably want to stay at least with the lower end HD monitor. They are not true HD 800×400 but they accept the HD signal and are at least a step up from the built in LCD on the camera.

I just got the Varizoom 8″ that takes the Panny’s Battery and am very happy with it.

As someone that bought and has used a bogen w/ the 501 head for a couple of years now. Buy one of these recommended heads. I curse the 501 every time I use it. It is not a bad head but it is not a great head, which is what is really needed for serious video work.

Have you done the firmware upgrade to the HVX200 to accept the 16GB cards, don’t know it that would fix the problem but it is a thought.

but Duel Adapter makes an, well, adapter for the P2 cards to use in the Express34 card slot. Haven’t use it much but the beta drive is working with my MBP with OS 10.4.9.

I would edit native DVCProHD and then export my finished program out with Compressors 3’s Advanced Conversion.
