  • SD monitor for HVX200?

Posted by Wicket on June 15, 2007 at 5:22 pm

    Hello folks,

So I’ve put a Redrock on my HVX, and my question is: will the camera downconvert the 720p if I plug in a cheapo SD LCD? Do I need some kind of converter for this? What is a cheap and cheerful monitoring option?

    Many Thanks,

    John

What’s cheap? You can find a decent Sony consumer LCD for $500 with component HD input.

Thanks Noah, will that play a 720p signal?

Actually you can use any monitor, SD or HD.

If it’s an SD, just go into the camera menu and scroll down to #6: AV In/Out Setup. You can set the Component Out Select for either 720p, 1080i or 480i (the latter being SD).

The RCA and SVHS both are active as well and are SD. So you can have a HD and SD monitor hooked up at the same time.

But if you want this to be an aid to focus you probably want to stay at least with the lower end HD monitor. They are not true HD 800×400 but they accept the HD signal and are at least a step up from the built in LCD on the camera.

I just got the Varizoom 8″ that takes the Panny’s Battery and am very happy with it.
