I’m sure this question has been asked before, but I’m curious to know your opinions on a good workflow for shooting in HD and editing in SD. None of our projects will be broadcast in HD, I just want to get the best quality footage I can to start with. We just got our HVX-200 and I’m shooting in 720p60 recording to the Firestore FS-100 in DVCPROHD Quicktime PN files. As a side note, I am amazed how simple it is to transfer the final Quicktime movies to my Final Cut Pro machine. Anyway, what I really want to know is what’s the best Frame size, aspect ratio and codec for using 720p60 HD footage in an SD sequence. I’ve been experimenting with the ProRes 422 codec. When I drop in my HD clips to the SD sequence the clip is automatically resized to 75% of it’s original size which seems to ‘soften’ the overall video. The clip will even play realtime. I don’t actually mind this softening as it makes it look more like film to me.

I’d appreciate any insights and experiences from others using this same configuration.

I would edit native DVCProHD and then export my finished program out with Compressors 3’s Advanced Conversion.
