HVX500 in the house.
Proudly upgraded this week from the HVX200 to the HPX500. Its a good thing the 200 is a Panasonic product or I will be pretty hard on it compared to the HPX500.
I’ve listed before and its obvious by the design specs, but the top top reasons I upgraded to the HPX500 were, 1. the increased low light performance, and 2. the increased dynamic range. oh the 4 16gig P2 cards didn’t hurt either…
I’ve been frustrated by the HVX200. Inspite of all the reasons why I personally feel its a better camera than the other companies competing HDV cameras, the HVX200 is not perfect. I shot them side by side as a last confidence check before I purchased the HPX500 and I’m blown away by how nice the HPX500 footage looks. A LOT less noise while being considerably sharper.
Its a solid build and the menus are a breeze after using the HVX200.
One thing I don’t get is why I can’t mount the P2 card on my mac desktop if I conect the camera to a firewire port. I was hoping to bring my 200 out as a second camera on shoots, as a place for producers directors to review footage shoot by the 500 on P2 cards and as a transport mechanism to a laptop that doesn’t have an acceptable PCMICIA slot. But that doesn’t appear to work exactly, from what I’ve been told… True? False?
All and all, I’m so excited to have made this investment and my clients will be too. Lots too test and I’m open to requests if their are specific wonders. I can’t claim to be as helpful as the moderators and beta testers but I’d be happy to try.
