For real, why would she not want to run tape? that makes no sense at all. A backup at $10/hr, seems like pretty cheap insurance to me. Man, I wish the HVX could also go to tape when in HD mode, even to have a SD DV backup would be so nice.

That is the only way that camera brings in footage, the settings you changed are for AVC-Intra footage from the big, expensive cameras.

I do agree, this isn’t the Firestore’s fault, same thing would happen if going to FCP directly.

My question back would be why would you put the camera in Tape mode, especially if they were not rolling tape? Never do something on set that has not been tested off set, NEVER!

On the HVX, in Tape mode the [Display Setup] Video Out OSD is also on the Firewire Out, it has to be set to off. (not so on P2 mode)

Post all your Scene file settings.

They are work together to give you more or less grain. If you are getting a lot of grain with a well lit scene something is set wrong.

Do you have Barry Green’s book, if you do not get it, and get it quick, it is a must have.

If you are mixing the 5D with other video files, convert them to that same codec.

You have to set up an Audio output (for say 4 mono channels) in User Prefernces, then patch each track to the channel you want it to be output to.

Patch by Right Clicking just off the A1, A2 buttons.

there are many ways to do this

One simple way (but only 2 minutes)
Create a shape (Oval) > Superimpose > Apply an Invert > change size, aspect softness to your liking > Composite Mode – Subtract

and you have a dark vignette.

But do yourself a favor, spend some time with the manual, make it your friend.

It is all doable on a MBP, downloading and viewing especially. but transferring the files to ProRes it will probably be painfully slow. If you go on the RED forums you find people build some serious render farms to ingest the files. I have seen a lot of towers brought onto the set to do this.

Nope, all the FCP is muxing the audio and video together, while wrapping the data in a QT .mov wrapper. The codec is always DVCProHD.
