8-Core are desktop units (Mac Pros). The Mac Book Pros only have due core and they are slower grade chips. So the slowest Mac Pro will smoke the fastest MacBook Pro.
You may want to define Red editing. Ingesting viewing or actually doing full on editing?

WOW, that is a lot of disc, I’m strictly authoring so no duplication like that. Not sure if I have made 4000 disc in my 10 years of authoring.
But I think the important thing is the top brands AND correct authoring practices can produce extremely high compatibility and play rates. Paying a little less to get sub par DVD-Rs gets eaten up with one FedEx shipment to replace a bad proof or master.
I would add TDK and Sony to the brands to stay away from.

Camera does into VCR mode, then you need to take it off Thumbnail mode, press play on the Firestore. Same as the HVX.

You need to “Rip” the files off the DVD. You can look at Mpeg StreamClip to do that, it is a free app you can download.
Convert to a QT format such as DVCPro50 or ProRes for the best quality.

How much footage do you have? A hardware standard converter is the best and quickest way, if you have a lot it maybe worth renting. If it is just a tape it might be worth sending off to have converted.
If you do it yourself make sure you are monitoring the PAL video. This is the only way you can judge the quality of the conversion.

It is recommended that you stay away from HQ, there have been capture and rendering associate with it and there is not a huge benefit in quality.
Setting need to match for frame rate and frame size.

If you have FCP do you not have DVDSP?
Quality and Compression from FCP has been answered many times, especially in the DVDSP forum.

Edit, export self contained movie w/ current settings.
Take movie to Compressor, encode for YouTube to their specs. Encode m2v and ac3 for DVD authoring.

If you need to make a change to the DVD (authoring) you need to have your project file and all the assets.
If you need to make changes to the video itself, you need you NLE file and source clips.

On the flip side, I’m amazed at the fact that such a high level person within Panasonic answers questions in such a timely fashion on this forum. Jan is an example to the way big corporation can and should operate.
