Importing video into FCP
A friend shot some footage on a trip thru the Grand Canyon & I’m trying to import it into FCP to edit.
The camera created ‘chapters’ during the output to DVD (on Verbatim DigitalMovieDVD+R discs) and I cannot seem to bring the video files into FCP. Is there a conversion or special technique I need to employ to bring these videos into FCP?
The files appear as VIDEO_TS.BUP & VIDEO_TS.IFO & VIDEO_TS.VOB
then follow chapter numbers, with similar endings: VTS_01_0.BUP & VTS_01_0.IFO & VTS_01_1.VOB
I have never seen these type of files before (it is not my camera) so I’m confused how to import into FCP.
Please help & advise.

You need to “Rip” the files off the DVD. You can look at Mpeg StreamClip to do that, it is a free app you can download.
Convert to a QT format such as DVCPro50 or ProRes for the best quality.

You may not be able to use them at all but try it. It’s a weird format. All recordable DVDs are weird formats.
Easiest thing to do is get the camera they were shot with and hook it up to your DV camera and make a dub. Capture form the dub.bogiesan
