I know this camera is a little more grainy to start with, but I’m getting a lot of dancing pixels. We are shooting 720PN in a lit studio and the greys/blacks seem more grainy than they should be, and yes my gain is at 0dB. . What are the factors that cause this, film/video mode, gammas, matrix? Even when the camera has the lens cap on, the black is super grainy. Am I doing something wrong or is it time to send it in for servicing?

Post all your Scene file settings.

They are work together to give you more or less grain. If you are getting a lot of grain with a well lit scene something is set wrong.

Do you have Barry Green’s book, if you do not get it, and get it quick, it is a must have.

    shooting zeros and,

    gamma: cinelike D

    Matrix: cinelike

    gain: 0dB

    720P/24PN

When I switch over to tape mode, no grain problems. I don’t have the book but I did order HVX bootcamp ( also by Green) upon your reccomendation. I’ve read other posts and I’m not the only one with this noise issue, any tips?
