As far as I understand it, v4 re-implemented the feature of existing close-captioning being maintained whereas a couple previous versions on DN hardware, it was stripped. There have been no features added to encode new close captioning into the ancillary data (HANC/VANC) of the HD master.

“M” resolution was a “multicam” resolution for SD allowing 4 streams of video on the older hardware and OS systems. It as a 1/4 frame of the data rate.
I wouldn’t expect 4 streams of DNxHD 145 to play off an internal drive without skipping frames.

Make sure your raster is set to thin or full depending on the data rate of your acquisition to see if that adds any performance. Also try transcoding one of the source clips into a DNxHD format and see if that drops any frames.

with a properly calibrated NTSC monitor, I would keep “Setup” on.

What is the drive connection? If you are trying to pull 3-9 streams in real time from a slow drive, it’s not going to happen. And using a Long GOP source such as HDV also adds compute cycles to the process…

MC can import MP3 as well, but I assume it is a mixdown of all your tracks and not individual tracks?

Does Garageband export a multitrack file like BWF?

I would edit in HD, then let the hardare do the SD downconvert as letterbox, center crop, or anamorphic as needed.

In export settings, click custom, and you have all the control parameters you are looking for as far as codec, compression, etc. If you have QT Pro installed, you will have even more. On the main QT export page, you will see presets for XY such as 352×240, 720 x 486, or HD if using HD.

Most likely the drive speed and connection to the system. Are you using FireWire 400 or 800? Is it really a 5400RPM disk?
