    Hello,

I have just started a job at a new place with a very different setup than what I am used to. They have the mojo connected to a deck which is then connected to an external monitor. I was having issues with my monitor yesterday and wanted to connect it directly to the mojo. I was told that it won’t be as precise if I do it that way. They told me I have to go through the deck and I have to uncheck NTSC has setup in the General settings folder. I have always had that box checked so I am a little unsure. Does anyone know if this will affect my final product. Any suggestions on the setup?

    Thanks so much,
    Lori

with a properly calibrated NTSC monitor, I would keep “Setup” on.

It really depends on what your final product is…

If you are working with an SD analog source (Beta SP), and plan to send it back to Beta, keep setup.

If you are working with a digital source, and plan to go to a file-based format, setup is not necessary.

There will be caveats to everything. Some old-school engineers insist on seeing 7.5 IRE on every product going to air. Generally speaking, setup is not necessary, unless it is.

The biggest question I have is why would you want to bypass your Mojo? You are looking at the most true representation of your ouput – what you are looking at is what is going to tape.

Thanks for the help. I told my work the same thing as you- why bypass the mojo? They insisted that you have to go through the deck in order to see what your final output project will be once it’s laid to tape (through the deck). I told them that I have never worked in a place that didn’t go straight from the mojo. They looked at me like I was crazy. Thanks for the help.

P.S. My final output is going to DVCam so I can assume that the NTSC setup will have no effect, correct?

Not sure why they wanna be reckless with output. How are the external scopes hooked up? These, of course, will be what ya go by and they need to be hooked up from mojo.
