I’m editing on a Media Composer with Mojo DX hardware. I’m starting up a new project that will be output in SD, but all the footage is HD (shot on XDCam).

I’m wondering which is the better way to go about the digitizing/editing process. Should I create a 30i project and down convert the footage as I bring it in? (It looks pretty crappy when I do this-very mushy and loss of detail) Or should I make the project HD 60i (same as the footage) and bring the footage in as is, and then down covert during output?

And is there a method that allows for crisper, cleaner video when down converting?

I would edit in HD, then let the hardare do the SD downconvert as letterbox, center crop, or anamorphic as needed.

Thanks Michael. That’s what I’ve done. It will be interesting to see how it looks when down converted.
