Annoying isn’t it. It would appear that the checkbox for “remove advanced pulldown and duplicate frames” check box is on by default. If your material is shot 24Pn then apparently this checkbox prevents FCP from importing the clip. If you right click on a shot in your import window and select “preferences” and uncheck that box you should be fine. Can’t find any documentation as to this checkbox needing to be unchecked, but it works none the less.

I got the deck to work with several of our FCP 5.1.2 systems, however we had many other problems. We can’t get FCP to digitize complete clips. You’ll notice the Log and Capture window is not the standard window, in fact it resembles the log and capture window from FCP Express. When digitizing from a JVC HDV 24p recorded tape FCP can’t seem to detect the stop/start of this format properly. The system will miss the first five seconds of every clip when using the Capture Now feature. The timecode and playback are sluggish when capturing.
We gave up on the HDV capture and just hooked the deck up to our Kona2 via an AJA HD10AVA. Captured everything to the DVCPro codec then rendered out the 23.98 by putting the material in a DVCPro 24p sequence. Once it was exported to a file and reimported the cadence was perfect. Of course doing it this way means you can never go back to the camera master as the t.c. is shot.
If you get the workflow to work post back here on the Cow. It seems no one is able to get the JVC 24p format working properly, especially with the BR-HD50 deck. That’s the last time we’ll work with that format.I’m told the HDV metadata in the JVC stream is to blame for FCP not picking it up quickly enough. However, Premiere Pro on the PC handles this format properly. Go figure. Since we’re not about to switch platforms any time soon we’ll just stick with our Panasonic HVX-200 and the beautiful images it produces.

I don’t believe the Assemble mode gives you the ability to turn off audio channels. However, you’re not hooked up via SDI to the deck so I’m not sure. A quick test would be in order to determine if it works or not. I’m not familar with your “canaput digital i/o” so I don’t know what digital outs it has on it. If it has SDI than great, but if it’s all analog then your best bet would be to disable the Ch 1/2 manually on the deck when it goes into record mode. It’s been a LONG time since I tried what you’re attempting.

Whoops. Posted my answer in the wrong thread. Now that I’m in the correct thread, here is the correct answer.
You’ll need to do an Insert Edit to Ch 3/4 and make sure you turn off channels 1/2 in the ETT window.
By the way, you would make your life a lot easier if you were using an AJA Kona card. SDI straight out with all audio channels at one time. No messy conversions from analog to digital either.

Or easier yet, just enable the Edit To Tape window and hit the Black and Code button. Select a start time for the tape, drop or non-drop, and away you go.

Very interesting. Avid made a big splash at NAB last year with their new asset management system Interplay. It seems Apple is getting serious about going head to head with the larger enterprise type solution than in the past. XSan was a start, now Artbox from Proximity. I really like the direction the FCP environment is moving.

Actually you can multicam sync 128 angels, but can view only 16 at a time. The faster your drives, the more streams of RT you’ll get. Also, resolution affests RT playback. You won’t get as many uncompressed HD streams as you will DV streams.

This bug has bitten me many time. Even though a clip, or clips in the timeline is turned off, when you go to ETT FCP thinks it has to render them. Very annoying. You just have to remeber to delete all clips that are turned off.
What really gets me boiling is when I go to render a timeline before outputting to tape and FCP tells me it’s going to be 20 minutes, when I know it should only take 2. I then quit FCP, restart the app and bam, only 2 minutes to render the same timeline. It would seem FCP has some kind of memory leak. I’ve had this issue going back as far as I can rememer. We’re on 5.1.2 now and the problem persists.
