I’m confused. You said in your original post that you WANT to keep the original aspect ratio, which is anamorphic. That would result in a 4:3 QT which is what you got. But then you say you really want it to be 16×9, which is not it’s native aspect ratio. It’s a simple matter of “Export” out of FCP to keep it’s anamorphic 4:3 aspect in one click in FCP.
If you are trying to alter it’s native anamorphic mode and export the clip at 16:9 then that’s another matter. Simply export a refrence file out of FCP. Drop it into Compressor. Select your mp4 setting of choice, then select the Geometry tab. Choose “Constrain to display aspect: 16×9” and your done.

We’ve noticed a 1 frame delay in cross converting from 720p to 1080p to an HDCAM deck. You’ll need to account for this in your timeline. Other than that, yes, it’s real time.
No noticeable difference in performance when comparing the Kona2 and the Kona3. We use both.We picked up a HDW-D2000 B stock that came from the Winter Olympics. We got a good deal on the deck with full warranty. Our justification for the purchase was a guaranteed 13 shows that need to go out to HDCAM 23.98 1080psf. The content is 720p. We still rent D5 decks when needed. No way I’ll be buying one of those beasts.

What new features would you like to see in a Kona 4? Keep in mind that MacPro’s keep getting faster and faster every 6-8 months. Any hardware you add to a Kona 4 would be superseded by your computers processor in due time.

In FCP use the Boris Title Crawl in the Generators tab. Edit in a 3 or 4 minute slug from the generator. Double-click and select the controls tab in the Viewer. Click to the Boris Window. In the Boris window you can set your tabs (left, right or center). Make sure you select the 1:2:1 deflicker box and select “Roll” for animation type.
I’ve used this for many, many shows, mostly for broadcast.

Once you’ve chosen the preset in Compressor select the Geometry tab and select the proper “Pixel Aspect” and “Constrain to display Aspect” setting.

The only card that I know of that can achieve this is the Auora Pipe series of cards. However, Aurora is on it’s last throws and never came out with an HD card. ProTools users generally go with the Aurora FuseX for this feature. It’s a great feature that you find you can’t live without after using it.
Sadly our Decklink and AJA cards don’t have this feature.Michael Alberts

Ah! You see it helps if you give us all the details up front so that we can intelligently answer the questions. What you are seeing is the 3:2 added pulldown field. You said in your last update that this was shot on film and then telecined to tape. Well that explains it. In order to get 24 frames of film onto 30 frames of video you have to add fields. This is quite normal and the standard way in which all movies are transfered to film. If you would like to edit with the original 24 frames that corresponds 1:1 with the film then you need to do a reverse telecine process on your footage. You can achieve this with CinemaTools, or directly within FCP now (via CT). Otherwise, what you are seeing is normal for film to video transfers.

If the footage is 24pN, then make sure you turn off the checkbox for “remove pulldown and duplicate frames”. This will prevent the clips from importing reliably, if it imports them at all. Just right click a clip before adding it to the que and select “Prefrences”.

We have to repeatedly reinstall the BCC 4 filters. They will all work fine for a few days and then bam, no options again. It only takes about five minutes to do the reinstall, restart, cap lock, restart again, but it’s a major pain. We’re probably going to buy the fxFactoryPro suite which is similar to BCC. It’s built on Apples new plugin architecture, so we won’t be getting these BCC problems on every upgrade.
