  • Output to Channel 3&4 on DigiBeta Deck. HOW????

Posted by Paul Factora on December 18, 2006 at 6:01 pm

I have a canapus digital i/o that only has 2 channels going out.

My client requires M&E audio on Channels 3&4.

Outputting to a DigiBeta DVW A-500

any suggestions on how I could accomplish this?

    Thanks,

You have to do it analog with two passes.

Mute 3&4 for the first pass.

Repatch the cables and mute 1&2 for the second pass.

    If you have SDI out:

    Go to sequence settings AUDIO

create another group and make the all of them MONO pairs.

Now you have four MONO track representing 1 2 3 4

output via SDI embedded and the tracks will go down to the four tracks in one pass.

    Now that’s some useful information.

    thanks for the reply David.

is there anything else i need to disable on the deck itself?

i tried it out and ended up erasing channels 1&2 🙁

Whoops. Posted my answer in the wrong thread. Now that I’m in the correct thread, here is the correct answer.

You’ll need to do an Insert Edit to Ch 3/4 and make sure you turn off channels 1/2 in the ETT window.

By the way, you would make your life a lot easier if you were using an AJA Kona card. SDI straight out with all audio channels at one time. No messy conversions from analog to digital either.

    thanks Michael,

    wish i had that card. : /

Well, i’m about an hour into laying in 3&4.

I did it as an “Assemble Edit” though.

Should I just stop it now or will the assemble edit work just as well?

    thanks,

I don’t believe the Assemble mode gives you the ability to turn off audio channels. However, you’re not hooked up via SDI to the deck so I’m not sure. A quick test would be in order to determine if it works or not. I’m not familar with your “canaput digital i/o” so I don’t know what digital outs it has on it. If it has SDI than great, but if it’s all analog then your best bet would be to disable the Ch 1/2 manually on the deck when it goes into record mode. It’s been a LONG time since I tried what you’re attempting.

It has to be an insert edit.

An Assemble edit enables the flying erase head when erases every track ahead of the new video it is laying down.

use the edit to tape window to Select the tracks.
