If you have any tracks or individual clips with the “Clip Enable’ turned off FCP will re-render that clip during the ETT process. If you have lot’s of clips with “Clip Enable” turned off that could add up to a lot of render time. You can tell if a clip’s visability in disabled by it’s darkened color in the timeline. It won’t need rendering in the timeline, only when you try to ETT. The fix for this is to just delete the clip or clips.

Well thats silly. Isn’t your deck feeding the monitor as well as the Blackmagic system? If so the picutre plays out to the monitor while you’re capturing.
We use the Kona3 for all our work these days. Most of the shows we do right now are shot 720p and crossconverted in RT out to HDCAM 23.98 for History Channel.
I’m not saying you should take the Multibridge back, but the Kona3 has far more RT functionality being provided in hardware.

The problem is not with FCP. Nor is the AJA IO at fault. The problem is with the device that sits between the keyboard and the edit chair.
The deck is probably doing just what you’re telling it to do. Check the underside of the front pannel on the deck. You’re t.c. setting should read INT, PRE SET, and REC RUN.Michael Alberts

We use the same method as Ken for our Pathfire uploads. They also require us to upload MPEG1 files which we’re forced to use Cleaner for. Compressor can’t meet the specs for the MPEG1 specifics.
We’re probably going to take Telestrem up on their offer to trade in our copy of Cleaner to Episode Pro for $500.Michael Alberts

Are you not seeing the image in the Capture Window or the HD monitor which is hooked up to your Blackmagic card? You should see the image on your HD monitor.
Under normal circumstances you should also be seeing the image, albeit not full rez, in the capture window.Michael Alberts

You should really be using FCP 5.1 or above when importing P2 files. 5.04 had some bugs in the media handling of imported MXF files from the HVX-200.
Other than that the problem is user error. Yes, you have a mismatch in your clip setting vs. sequence setting. Any G5 should NOT have to render 720p material in order to edit. Do what Walter suggested and use the Easy Setup.Michael Alberts

FCP 6 seems to have added some BIG new features, but not improved on very many of the old “issues”. At the NAB booth I asked about the ability to properly import BWF files, active audio meters in ingest and Edit To Tape and acutal timecode display on ETT. These are all basic “pro” features but none have have been added yet. Myself and many other people have only been asking for this since FCP 2.
I can highly recommend the DH_WideSafe generator from Martin’s company. It’s saved my butt many a time, as well as the drop out fixer, Guides, BigTime, etc, etc.. Obviosly their plugins were thought up by editors who recognized FCP’s limitations.Michael Alberts

It sounds like the post house is giving you a pretty good deal. If you plan on renting the deck yourself you’ll find that a HDCAM recorder costs about $700-$800/day to rent. Throw in an HD tape at $75, the fact that you’ve never even done this, and probable screw ups that ruin your screening and I say that gets mighty expensive.

A small company out of England who makes kick ass (but expensive) products for both SD and HD is called Eyeheight. https://www.eyeheight.com I’ve used some of their gear in the past like the LegalEyes legaliser. Their stuff just works.
Telestream should have some cool toys to view for compression. Looking forward to seeing some new FXPlugs from Noise Industries.Michael Alberts
