  • FCP6 – titlesafe guides, are they improved

I know a small thing, but has the action and title safe feature in final cut been improved with the latest release?
Allowing for 4×3 centre cut title and action safe in 16×9 etc.

I know there is a plug in for it to buy, but just curious if this feature has finally been fixed in FCP.

A small thing. But a handy thing.

I asked at the booth and the answer was that there’s no change in FCP6 so if you want more options you’d need our DH_WideSafe generator.

FCP 6 seems to have added some BIG new features, but not improved on very many of the old “issues”. At the NAB booth I asked about the ability to properly import BWF files, active audio meters in ingest and Edit To Tape and acutal timecode display on ETT. These are all basic “pro” features but none have have been added yet. Myself and many other people have only been asking for this since FCP 2.
I can highly recommend the DH_WideSafe generator from Martin’s company. It’s saved my butt many a time, as well as the drop out fixer, Guides, BigTime, etc, etc.. Obviosly their plugins were thought up by editors who recognized FCP’s limitations.

This is a bit off the original topic, but I’m looking for an audio plugin that will provide more/better feedback than FCP’s built in meters. I downloaded Inspector from Roger Nichols thinking it would work, but it doesn’t. Can you suggest anything?

FCP doesn’t support custom audio plug-in interfaces so you won’t get something like this working directly in FCP.

One option is to use Audio Hijack Pro from Rogue Amoeba to piggyback a plug-in on the FCP output.

Thanks Martin, that seems like a great option. Can you confirm you’ve tried this workflow and it doesn’t affect system performance? It sounds like a steal for $32 and it seems like it would allow me to use the Roger Nichols Inspector plugin (if still needed). I really appreciate your help!! Thanks, Brian

I’ve just tried it as much to see that it works. I can’t believe it would have much if any affect on performance – audio is very low in overhead.
