Why do I always need to render?
Hi-
I shot a short film using the HVX-200 at 24p and I am editing with FCP 5.0.4.
As far as I can tell the clip properties match the sequence settings, yet when I lay the clips onto the timeline they always need to be rendered.
I have an older G5- could the rendering be necessary because it is an older Mac, or is most likely because there is a discrepancy between the clip properties and the sequence settings?
Any help in this area would be much appreciated.

that one. Are you using an Easy Setup from FCP or did you make your own?
I’m betting the Sequence is either SD or the frame size has been altered to not match the DVCPro HD frame size.

You should really be using FCP 5.1 or above when importing P2 files. 5.04 had some bugs in the media handling of imported MXF files from the HVX-200.
Other than that the problem is user error. Yes, you have a mismatch in your clip setting vs. sequence setting. Any G5 should NOT have to render 720p material in order to edit. Do what Walter suggested and use the Easy Setup.Michael Alberts
